It's actually *not* a B-24! It's a photo recon variant called the F-7A.

F-7A Photo Recon planes were made by a relatively simple conversion from standard B-24Js. The F-7A had a triple camera arrangement of one vertical and two oblique cameras (also called "trimetrogon") installed in the navigator's compartment in the nose. The rear bomb bay doors were fixed shut and a floor placed in the bay. At the forward end of the rear bay, there was also a vertical camera installed on the starboard side and a split vertical camera station on the port. There was also additional equipment such as intervalometers and other controls installed. The forward bomb bay usually had auxiliary fuel tanks installed.

This one was "Nosie Rosie", 24th Combat Mapping Squadron, 8th Photo Reconnaissance Group, 10th Air Force

I've even done a skin for it (and some other F-7 planes)

At one time I had a selection of B-24 skins that depicted "form-up" aircraft similar to the SAS header picture today. One was a B-24 with multiple images of a B-24D painted on the fuse. Does anyone remember it and if so, where can I download it? It should be perfect for the new D model.

I went into the local Ian Allen bookshop (yes, there is one in B'ham), anyway, months ago I rmember browsing and flitting through books, and I noticed many A/C & their various highly coloured paint & markings for the Formation Aircaft. Those A/C were typicaly older/more worn-out A/C that were used during the bomber stream formation, before the bombers flew off to their destinations.

Normally a few repainted bombers as lead and box formation lead A/C's, with some highly painted fighters/escorts for shepherding forming bombers into their assigned 'Boxes'. Think of it like visual, airborne airtraffic control, they, the Formation Keepers & Shepherds, landed once the bombers streams were at height & in formation; sometimes they assisted in aerial escorting duties into the British parts of the Channel and North Sea.

That would be "Minerva" from the 392nd Bomb Group.

I have a whole pack of B-24 assembly ships (also called "Judas Goats") in this thread at Axis and Allies Paintworks
They were all made on the J model, so there may be some odd mappings on the D mod.
Where can the D mod be found, anyway? Someone PM me...

Heinkel He 100D-1 as a fictional "He 113" fighter.
After small series of prototypes, RLM saw no reason for mass production because of Bf-109. Six prototypes were sold to Soviet Union and three to Japan. The rest of them (12 planes) formed a Heinkel-Rostock defence unit. Goebbels' propaganda described the type as non-existing "He 113" to convince Great Britain that there was  new fighter in large-scale service.

Oh, yeah! A well-known picture of an early B-17E. I've always found this photo interesting since there is no serial number on the tail! I think it's 41-9061 due to the near-perfect match (note the orange rectangles under the cockpit and behind the crew door on the rear fuselage) with this photo that the USAF says is that serial number.
Also note that it's nearly always shown backwards as the crew door is on the wrong side.

really big copy

Interesting to note that the He111s are being serviced by a (formerly British) Universal Carrier.

The Universal Carrier, built to more than 120,000 units (!) is with not a shred of doubt the most important unmodded IL2 vehicle/gun/object.
Not only was the Universal Carrier used by both Allied and Axis forces, it was used in a plethora of roles...

Luftwaffe AAA mount

Canadians added a .50 cal MG
and added a flamethrower to create the "Wasp"

2 Pounder Anti-tank Gun

3" Mortar Carrier

Russian Use

French Use

Modders Please Consider this very important vehicle!!!
