I KNEW something was up with the B-17 in that pic.  I just couldn't quite tell what was wrong.

"Nine-O-Nine" (B-17) and "Witchcraft" (Last flying B-24J) are coming to Blaine Airport on July 18th :) I'm SO THERE! Last time I didn't have my GoProHD, just a SD DV Camera, didn't have my Nikon D40x then either. I'll get better pics for sure this time. Hope to be there the day they fly in & out, also, to get some shots of them in the air :)

If anyone wants to float me a donation of $500 I'll take a ride in Nine-O-Nine and shoot footage on the go, too! ;)

Is that not "Texas Raiders" a few yrs ago? She has long since had a turret added if so. I can't tell for sure from the nose art, though I should since I photographed her on several occaisions some yrs ago.

Here she is again, B-17 painted as the "Nine O' Nine" with top turret.

After I got home and a bit later in the afternoon, she flew over where I live now at a pretty low altitude. Shook the house good. Mom thought she was gonna park in the garage. :)

The P-51B "Betty Jane" was just landing from a flight when we got to the airport. What a beautiful sound as she taxied past me about 50 feet away.

I just wsh I could have photographed the QF-4E drones they painted in nam colors in some of those warbird formations. I guess they can't afford to fly them any more. Note the avionics fairing on the spine of the fuselage showing it to be a QF-4 drone. I hope it got put on display rather than used as a target.

I remember so well during the early 70s the rather common flyover of F-4s, usually Es. We were far from a base that had them, but the military had more than one fighter that they let all the pilots take turns flying, unlike now.

They would fly so blasted low. I was on my trail bike one day in 72, and one flew directly over me at less than 200 feet. Another E circled directly over my head at not much higher, looking at the Piper J-3 and cessna 140 in our front yard at the small airstrip I lived at; they circled several times, and I was totally thrilled when I saw the RIO actually wave back at me. I had record scramble time when I'd hear the rush of jets as they flew low over head, more than 2/3 the time they were F-4s. I really miss those things. I actually got to sit in teh cockpit of one at Dobbins AFB at an airshow around 74. That was heaven.

The one in the pic has the TESEO long range camera in the wingroot to.

A great shot.

I can still remember a flight with a Do-228 (twin turboprop, 15 passengers) from Kiel (Germany) to RNAS Yeovilton (Somerset, South West England) for the german navy.
We've been intercepted by a wing of F-4F Phantom II, the leader lowered flaps and gear in order to decellerate and positioned himself left hand of our Do-228.
We've been literally hiding in his shadow, the fuselage of the Phantom shadowed our whole aircraft.

After about two minutes he separated, engaging afterburners at roughly 100m distance. You could feel the kick in your stomach when the shock wave hit us and there was no chance to read your own words anymore.

Best regards - Mike
