BEST MOST REALISTIC CAMPAIGNS FOR IL2?
« on: February 05, 2011, 04:08:55 AM »

Hi guys,

What are the best most realistic campaigns for IL2? I have searched through loads on here and M4T but can't really find anything that is truely brilliant.

My only requirements are:
1) Must be historically accurate
2) Needs to be on a good/ enjoyable map
3) Must have good skins, well thought through ground objects ect

At the moment I am flying "Against the wall - part 1". It's quite good but missing the little details that make all the difference. I have no preference as to the theatre of operations or what type of aircraft. Just has to be a really good campaign.

Any suggestions are very welcome!

P.S.

Is there any campaigns/ missions made for the "Khalkhin Gol (Nomonhan) Summer 1939" map by Mixx?
Is there any campaigns/ missions made for the "North Korea 1:1 scale map" by Checkyersix?

Thanks

yes indeed, i have made campaigns that i thought were truely brilliant - but didn't impress my friend much when he played it, lol.... ;D
so it's down to personal opinion, and it does indeed sound like you'd be better off doing your own, or even taking one you like, and editing it more to your idea of perfect.... ;)
FMB can be great fun....for me, it's just as much fun as actually flying.... 8)

Right guys, no need to be sarcastic please.

1stly you understood me wrong. What I am trying to say is that it is VERY DIFFICULT to spot a good campaign on M4T amongst all of them as there are too many to choose from and the 1s that cought my eye were lacking a bit in the details, immersion, realism. So please tell me if there are some good 1s that I perhaps did not spot or overlooked.

Put it this way... some guys make nice maps for IL2, some guys make amazing maps as they make the most of what is possible with this sim such as the Zapolare map or the Khalkhin Gol map by Mixx or the 352nd CCM. These maps are simply amazing because of the detail that went into them. I am sure the same can be said for mission/ campaigns.

My definition of "truely brilliant" is something that is more enjoyable/ interesting than 95% of all other stuff.

My definition of "small details" is the use of good skins where appropriate, placing objects on the map with care and not randomly populate airfields with static aircraft in no particular order. The author must create small little bits and pieces here and there for a particular mission. This includes good use of anything that is stationary or that is moving. By no means am I saying the entire map should be alive with objects - hell no... just that they need to be used in an interesting, exciting way in appropriate places. Flying a campaign from a bone stock airfield with say 10 randomly placed aircraft on it is very very boring as soon as you start. No sense of immersion/ realism.

Hope you understand me now. I usually adjust, improve any missions I like myself and then fly them. I never have enough time to create an entire campaign. And most importantly I will not know what will happen so each mission is new and exciting as opposed to me creating it and knowing what will happen. This is the reason I would like to find some new campaigns.

I have just downloaded the "679_VMF-213 Hellhawks" Campaign from M4T and already I think this could be something I am looking for judging from the screenshots/ describtion/ amount of research that went into creating it. Hope it's good.

Any other suggestions?

My favorites are ; Storm Clouds I & II, Bushpigs (not 100% historical) and 'Murmansk to Morocco ( a bf110 campaign from' 39 to'45). Also make sure you check Poltava and CzechTexan's campaigns!

I don't know if there are other ones for my NK map, but this one is shaping up to be something really special:

There's one on M4T that's supposed to be really good, about the USS Enterprise, all historical missions. I think it's called "The Grey Ghost" or something, but I could be wrong. I played the first few missions and got my ass handed to me, so I stopped...

Check out "Honcho" for the Korea map. 100 missions to mirror the tour of duty of an F-86 pilot in Korea.
You do not encounter enemy on every mission, fuel is a BIG worry, much more so than the enemy, and it can get rather monotonous sometimes-which is pretty damn realistic!
I was flying it but landing is required for mission completion (I think...) and Ill be damned If I can land an F-86. I can drop a heavily loaded 109 onto a short runway at 0300 on CY6's happy valley map with the dark skies mod like its nothing, but landing an empty F-86 on a long runway at noon on a bight, windless day is damn near impossible for me! Damn thing must have porcelain landing gear cause it just comes the f*** apart on touchdown! Oh well!
