Hi all!

First, sorry for my poor english.

I would like a request for a Ki 61 II KAI. This beautiful plane entered in service in August 1944. Really is a Ki 61 improved with a new engine for a better performance, I think the Ki 61 is an almost done basis for this plane.

The extended wing was replaced with the original Hien wing, the fuselage was lengthened, and the rudder area increased. The result was the "Ki-61-II KAI", with initial flight of the prototype in April 1944. It was followed by 30 more prototypes.
As long as the temperamental Ha-140 engine worked properly, the Ki-61-II KAI proved to be a promising interceptor, with a fast climb rate and good high-altitude flight characteristics.

The military situation was increasingly desperate, and so the Ki-61-II KAI was put into production in September 1944 in spite of the problems with the engine.
Two versions were produced, one designated "Ki-61-II KAIa", with 12.7 millimeter guns in the wings and 20 millimeter cannon in the nose, and the other designated "Ki-61-II KAIb", with four 20 millimeter cannon.

374 Ki-61-II KAI airframes were built and 99 of them fitted with engines, giving a total production of 404 Ki-61-II KAI machines completed. On 19 January 1945, US Army Air Forces B-29 Superfortresses turned the plant at Akashi
that was producing the Ha-140 engine into cinders and rubble. That abruptly ended concerns over the reliability of the Ha-140 engine, but left 275 airframes sitting around without powerplants.

The fuselage was strenghtened 24 cms, but I think it is not noticiable. The engine was the Ha 140, an evolution of the Ha 40 ( a japanese version of the DB 601A), 1500 hp at take off.


My second request is a Ki100 cockpit with glass gauges...

Any aircraft capable of taking on the Mustang can never be said to be a fiasco! It came OUT of a fiasco: the lack of inline engines, but the Ki-100 was a truly magnificent improvisation.

Hi all!

Thank you very much for the info, Crazyflak. But I think that 3D work is not needed. For example, Hayate has not an exact measure and we are flying this without problems ( to the 200th Sentai... great job, guys!). Differences between Ki 61 I and II are minimum. I think the only 3D work (maybe) needed is for the nose cannons. We have the Hien Otsu, 2x12'7 mms in wings, it would be valid for the KAIa (2x12'7 mms in wings and 2x20 mms in nose) and the Hei with 2x20 mms in wings would be valid for the KAIb. I don't know nothing about to make mods... but a different FM (Bf 109 F2 would fit) for this plane and changing weapons, and we'll have the Ki 61 II (surely it will be more difficult that I assume... as I said, I don't know nothing about mods making).

I would prefer a G6 FM  ;D ... I think the F2 is the most accurate.

I don't mind it before, but... the Ki 61 II must use the Ki 100 cockpit. Ki 100 was built using the airframes made for the Ki 61 II.

It would be wonderful to create historic missions of intercepting B29 with the Hien II and the Ki100 over Japan in the last stages of war. I hope to see this plane soon  :)

Ki 61 II has different engine with longer front fulsage, new tail and a new canopy such as this in Ki 100. The easiest way in my opinion - would be to add a new 3d model of front fulsage to the existing model of Ki 100 (and also to new JapanCat Ki-100 I Otsu - it will be Ki 61 III version)  ;D





Ki-61-II
    Prototype with 10% greater wing area and a slightly different airfoil. An Ha-140 engine with 1,120 kW (1,500 hp) for takeoff was fitted; the cowling panels were redesigned and the supercharger air intake was longer. A redesigned windscreen incorporating an extra panel was mounted further forward. The transparency to the rear of the sliding canopy was redesigned to increase rearward visibility. The prototype was first flown in December 1943; flight trials showed that the new wing was unsatisfactory and only eight Ki-61-IIs were built. The Ki-61-II was one of only very few Japanese aircraft able to reach the operational altitude of the B-29s raiding Japan with decent firepower. Subsequently, the majority of B-29s lost to Japanese fighters were shot down by the Ki-61-II. Due to the unreliability of the Ha-140 and the destruction of the Akashi plant by a B-29 bombing attack, the bulk of the Ki-61-II-KAIs built were airframes only, which were later converted to Ki-100-Is. ;Ki-61-II-KAI Pre-production version which reverted back to the Ki-61-I-Tei wing, a 220 mm (8.7 in) fuselage stretch, enlarged rudder, and Ha-140 engine. 31 prototype and 374 production type of Ki-61 II kai were to be manufactured from Sept.1944 but only 99 ha-140 engines were available for the production type.The rest 275 airframe were converted to Ki-100 I with mitsubishi ha-112 radial engines.
Ki-61-II-KAIa
    Armed with 2 x 12.7 mm (.50 in) machine guns in the wings and 2 x 20 mm cannon in the fuselage.
Ki-61-II-KAIb
    Armed with 4 x 20 mm cannon.
Ki-61-III
   This version had a cut-down rear fuselage and a canopy design which was later used by the Ki-100-II.

It's not really a conversion as usual.
