All these army pix had me thinking. I am posting this to see if I can get malone to perhaps post on from his days also.
I found this picture recently in an old pack. It was taken very early one morning before an operation about 16 years ago or so.
The reason it was taken if because a newly arrived rookie wanted to pose for a picture to send to his girl or parents or something.
The funny part is, the telling differences between us.
His pristine uniform, with the regulations badges and cap (the golden bullseye we called it, I had a cricket hat in my bag), and the ridiculous "stance", and ,the difference in the state of our boots.
For those interested, the gun is an R5. I have 2 30rnd mags taped together on mine. The green tape on the grip is not for grip, it is a code me and my stick used to identify our own weapons in a big hurry, epsecially inside armoured vehicles. Each had a different "tell", I had a green tape on the grip, another guy had 2 greens, other had Yellow, ect. We did that because we had "fixed" the rifles for ourselves in various ways, and trusted them.
The thing in my belt is a torch. You only ever leave home without one once.
Cheers!
