Distress Call Position
« on: March 05, 2011, 07:46:07 AM »

This mod add after every distress call from AI planes, the map sector where the caller is located.
Sector indication is present also when the AI leader of the flight tell you to stay on course, so you can have an idea of the separation, in case you are far from him.

I had the idea to make this mod after flying several missions in a SP campaign on realistic settings. Often i was patroling without enemy in sight but the radio was screaming, with AIs desperately looking for help. I would like to help them, IF ONLY I KNEW WHERE THE HELL THEY WERE. :) I guess if you have flown some missions on realistic settings, you know what i'm talking about.

INSTALL
Drop the "Distress Call Position" folder in your "Mods" folder.

USE
Just look at the radio calls, ensure to have SubTitlesLines in your conf.ini at 3 or more.

NOTES
This is the very first release of the mod. It should work ok also on big maps (with horizontal sectors labeled with two letters). There might be some bugs, i corrected everything i found, but since comms are very vary, it's not easy find them all. Anyway, no bug left should break your game.

I think not, but i may be wrong, i don't know if there are differencies between 4.09 and 4.10 radio code.

Oh my lord this has been needed for a long time! Thank you SO much burn! This has been one of my biggest gripes about the AI.
Something else I hate about the realistic settings is that when your the flight leader you cant ask where your other elements are if you get separated, and that your other AI pilots don't give a proper contact report containing target ID (fighters, bombers, unknown, etc...), direction, distance and altitude, before breaking off to attack... >:(
I guess these are included in Frogs formation mod? Guess well see when it is re-released. In the meantime Ill be enjoying this!
Thanks again burn!

This goes a long way to fixing the overall AI issues many of us have dealt with over the years. Personally, the one that gets me is the way AI call contacts or any other info, for that matter. It's always, "This is three, fighters spotted at one o'clock." Three who? Number three in my squadron or number three two grids over, or number three ten grids away? If yu have more than one squadron in the mission, you should have different calsigns for each squadron. They had them in real life, why can't we have them in game.

 :P :P :P :P

extremely useful - however me feels it makes the game pheraps a bit too easy - talking about masochism  8).
Do you think there's a way to add some err...miscalculation, like instead of giving the correct sector, the nearest one.
