extremely useful - however me feels it makes the game pheraps a bit too easy - talking about masochism  8).
Do you think there's a way to add some err...miscalculation, like instead of giving the correct sector, the nearest one.

Don't knock it too much, this mod is a damned good start.

Ideally of course, AI pilots would call out the nearest major geographical feature on the grounds, such as a city or a river, and would also do things like describe the type, number, altitude and direction of enemy aircraft, or even say things like "I've got 40 190s cornered over Berlin."

Also, in an ideal world, if AI planes can't see the ground, or are lost or panicked, they wouldn't call out a location, would call out the wrong location, say something like "Current heading [direction]. Last known position was X km/miles [N,E,S,W,etc.] of [Geographical Feature]."

Finally, AI should ideally NOT get on the radio when radio silence must be observed, even when they must declare an in-flight emergency and bail out or ditch.

Oh well, i've was just wondering if there was the possibility of a "wider range" signal

radio silence...i remember a checkbox in the full MB.... wouldn't that work?

Thanks for the comments.

Just to point out, this mod has few to do with the AI, it just add the position of the caller in already existing radio comms.

I limited to this for two reason:
1. I'm not so skilled to attempt larger modifications, i'm still trying to figure out some things: i'm taking il-2 modding as an opportunity to learn something on java programming, so i'm going step by step.
2. I don't want to go too far away from the original implementation of certain features. TD is going to work on the AI in the next patches and i'm prertty sure they can do a better job than me: there are some skilled programmers in TD and they have access to code documentation.

Said that, making the AI refeering to geographical entities on the map would be complex to develop and probably also to use, as players often fly on different maps and the may have to zoom and pan the map to understand AI positioning.

As per identifieng the caller squadron, that would rely pretty much on proper mission design, always assigning squadrons to various flights. Probably the easist solution would be making the text message of the communication look different (maybe something like the BOOST/WEP message changing color) if the caller is in the same flight of the player. I might thinks about this if i have some spare time.

Superb, when ones calling, I take a look at my map and then head to this area. Ads huge immersion.

I can't believe nobody has thought of this before, a very clever mod Burn, thanks! I haven't had the chance to test this yet, but do you know if this mod works online with added AI planes to Dogfight Maps?

It should, and i think it will work with 4.09 too. Looking at the code the compatibility with 4.09 should be fine, if someone can test this out would be nice, my 4.09 install is pretty messed up. :P

I'm not criticizing you, I understand the limitations you're working under. My "wishlist" for AI behavior would require massive coding as well as extensive reworking of speech packs. Basically, impossible. But, your mod is "good enough" given the limits of the game. I consider it a "must have"/ "why didn't someone think of that before" mod.

No problem Pursuivant, i was not taking it as a critic, sorry if my message sounded in that way. :)
I was just trying to explain why would be hard going that way.

Happy to hear you are enjoying the mod. :)

Yes, can be done. Can be made by indicating altitude or by giving a general indication, like "on the deck", "low", "high". What do you think is better?

"Tree level" 0-200m
"low" 200-1000m
"medium" 1000/4000m
"high" 4000/7000m
"very high" 7000m+

I would like to use your mod at the same time as Frog's formation mod, but sadly IL2 freezes in game when using both (4.09)  :'(

Yes, i think Frog Formation is the only mod having compatibility issues with my mod. Unfortunately, Frog Formation Mod is not even available anymore.

In any case, if frog would like to include my mod in his one, no problem for me, i don't think i will be able to do the opposite, since frog formation mod is pretty complex and i'm not that good. :)
