Early in World War II, German U-boats were sinking alarming numbers of Allied freighters & oil tankers along the eastern seaboard of the United States, with a peak of around 80 ships being sunk per month. This was clearly a National emergency & we needed a technological miracle.

Air to Surface missile the RZ-65 that was being devolped by the Germans and was tested with the following aircraft He 111, Bv 137, Ju 88, Bf 109, Bf 110, Me 210.

The BF 109 F-4/R1 could have a GM-1 power boosting system in place of the additional 20 mm cannon underwing, and it was intended to fit four RZ 65 air-to-air or air-to-ground rocket missiles on underwing racks, but this armament was never perfected for operational use.
