Thunderjet and Panther: fuel tanks

Hello.
Most pictures and photos of "strait-wibg" F9Fs and strait F-84s are presenting these planes with fuel tanks on wing-tips creating an impression that these tanks were constant element of the wing. Flakiten's mods of Panther and Thunderjet also don't feature the tip-tanks as drop tanks. But this picture:

makes me doubt. Were there any opportunities to use F9F and F-84 without tip-tanks? If yes, is there is a chance to see tip-tanks on Flakiten's planes as loadout option (like on F-80C)?
Regards.

Short Answer: No.
The Aircraft in Korea used these Temporary tanks. The F-84 you've got there is a special model, wich wasnt used in Korea. There was even a F-84 with Swept wings, wich was painted like a MiG-15 for "the Hunters" movie

I don't think there is any change in designation, it was just modified so it didn't have it because it was unneeded.
