game engine work?

There is many fine mods that add new aircraft, maps, objects, effects to the game. I'm wondering if any work is being done to upgrade the "game engine" itself?

its successsor will be out in a month. the game engine is 10 years old... and IF someone does that kind of thing, it would be team dsaidalos who have access to the necessary knowledge and tools, not the modding groups.
