Tyhanks for clarifying that, i was thinking inner meant wing root like in a fw-190 with the inners in the very root. Early mustang smust have came as quite a shock to the airbases on the channel coast, some quick rhubarbs and gone on a daily basis.

Hi aviator mod team,

I'm currently working on a P-51 A and a mustang mk I template (and of course waiting for the two others model, P-51 A with 20mm guns ang A-36. But I came accross a little problem about the under part of your model, which seems to have retained the P-51 B to D radiator scoop model:

I think the forward scoop could be a bit shorter, and the backward scoop also. The middle opening does not exist, also, on the P-51A - Mustang mk. I family (circle number 2). do you plan to get rid of it in the next version?

I don't know anything about 3D modelling, so please don't take my question as a classic whinning. I respect your work a lot, and just wanted to ask.

PS: here is a link which also shows the different forward scoop types on those models (opening on mkI and 20 mm models, not on others, if you plan to model them).

And also a nice view on the mustang I details:

The front of the scoop is accurate (based off blueprint, other parts of the fueselage are more inaccurate than the scoop due to a bad P-51D model). The middle one which is the water or the oil can't remember which it was so long ago that I mucked around with it but it does not exist I know. Not sure about the rear one...

I'm not sure about the rear one, I'll have to check that... The middle "thing" is the oil radiator cooler flap, which indeed did not exist.

Thanks for your answer, and keep up the good work.

The radiator is pretty much correct as far as the overall dimensions, but the openings are completely wrong for an Allison.
(For the record, I'd like to see it corrected, but in the larger scheme of things it's not a big deal.)

As can be seen in this photo, the opening in the front is a different shape, having a noticeable curve to the upper lip. It also sits closer to the fuselage than the scoop on the Merlin versions.

Another difference is that the bottom half of the front end of the scoop could be opened up.

You are right Jarink, but I allow myself to add that the openable front scoop is only for the A-36 and the mustang mk. I family (not P-51A, with or without 20 mm). That point (openable scoop) is beyond a simple 3D adjusting... We, simple "flat" 2D painters, can just wait and hope...

The front end of the scoop opening is not on all of the P51s/Mustangs etc... Only some of them have that, just a variation of design.
