They were very effective in the -4 version. They scored most of the damage to the Yamato. Also, the Navy kept them on carriers until 49, in the post war markings.

Dollars to doughnuts Oleg probably had one ready to go before Northrop lawyers ended all future inclusion of US weapons dating back to the revolution without paying ransom to college geek lawyers, who would make excellent ballistic test dummies. I know this personally (about lawyers, not any Helldiver).

Did anyone notice on the Greek Helldivers the twin 50 pods?

Those are good ones. Far heavier load than an SBD, 20mm instead of 50s, it was a better weapon than the SBD, even if pilots were more fond of the SBD.

+1, despite it sounding like a peice of ****, no late war pacific campaign would be complete without one, and the pacific book has them in it  ;)

I'm pretty sure that I saw a WIP for the Helldiver from CsoCso quite some time ago. He had a model of the F7F Tigercat also. I think that his work on the Mig-21 has pretty much consumed most of his time since then though.

There was a really beautiful SB2C made by a modder for Microsoft's CFS2. It also featured a great engine sound. I have that file, and the CFS2 file for one of my favorites, the F5F Skyrocket. If anyone wants to take a crack at a convervsion to IL-2/DBW just let me know. ;D

I'm TOTALLY looking forward to the Helldiver being added to IL2'46 one of these days!

With a better skin that would be great for il-2, but the cross over work and permission stuff probably isn't worth it  :(
