With a better skin that would be great for il-2, but the cross over work and permission stuff probably isn't worth it  :(

Trying to convert FS or even CFS models to IL-2 is a spectacularly bad idea.

I worked on the art team for both games, the models are built very, very differently.  Starting from scratch will get you a better result in less time.

CFS2 is one of the classic games - because of the moddability and MS Flight Sim modder base, it enabled a large numbers of those less commonly represented WW2 aircrafts to be made available to simmers.  Some of those planes would't be seen in a sim again until IL-2 modding (and some not in IL-2 still).

Are those leading edge slats?  Didn't know that about the Helldiver!

Neither did I!

I guess the slats are to keep the aircraft wings operating at high angle of attck (i.e. dives, spins, turns, etc.) based on my aerodynamics knowledge.

WOW! That model looks sexy and silky smooth.   :-*

Another cool fact: I heard that the XSB2C Helldiver prototype had to have more than 500 individual modifications for it to get accepted by the US Navy. The prototype was very flawed and many problems could not be worked out.

and it still had problems in service, bombs not drop\pping leading to explosion on landing, wings no lockind down, sluggish controls, gear leaver to low leading to some people being killed as they did not do up the harness so they could pull gear up and then due to it's sluggish nature they crashed into the see banging their heads knocking them out cold and drowning.

It still had some problems, but as a weapon it was superior to the SBD, and any Japanese dive bomber. Load wise, performance, and it had a pair of 20mm instead of a pair of 50s, wich TBM pilots found frustrating in the misns where they straffed ground targets. The SBD was a better airplane, but the Helldiver was a better weapon.

The Confederate/commemorative air force fly thiers regularly, and I was fortunate enough to photograph it in 89 and 90. A really impressive AC, albeit a bit complicated.

Maybe a modder will like to have it one day and will start the job on it.

I think recent events involving such things (that have resulted in a huge amount of work not being usable) seem to indicate that starting from scratch may be the best thing. Not a modder, but I've seen some nice stuff recently that we won't be able to use for such reasons.
