Hey All,

I'm glad to see the rejuvenated interest in the SOB 2nd Class. This aircraft is probably the most historically significant WW2 omission left to the skies of IL2. The number of folks commenting on this beast prompted me to tart up my initial request.
Please check out the first post - its got some more detail now.

Rabaul deserves to have the stuffing knocked out of it by this bad boy!

Is curious to see that no one picks the Helldiver, is the most important plane currently not modelled in the game, but it seems no one wants to deal with it. Maybe is lack of references (I think we can solve that) or is lack of interest on the plane itself? Not telling the modders what they should do, but simply curious cause is a really important plane for historical WW2.

Ditto, it's historically important, as I believe the Enterprise was the last carrier operating the SBD, and when it became a night ops ship, I think it just carried Hellcats and Avengers with radar...I think. The Helldiver dominated, along with the Avenger, anti-ship ops in 44-45. It saw considerable post war use as well until 49 I think. Leaves a huge gap in any projects in the 44-45 time period.

At this point in the thread I'm a bit surprised that Ranwers hasn't chimed in with pictures of one that's been in his stable for four or five years unable to escape.  ;)

Well, Ranwers can't be interested in everything.

that's a good point, but it's his own fault, as he has spoiled us by being so.......productive.  :P

I did some research and it seems that ranwers once worked on a helldiver, but has to be a long time ago.( AAA isn't existing anymore)

Pretty interesting, wondering If Ranwers can say something about it.

I'm pretty sure that I saw a post from SAS-Csocso that showed a beautiful model of a Helldiver but that was quite a while ago.
