-V1.2 - Made compatible with v4.101m and re-written from the original stock class

This was my own effort to solve a discussion I started some time ago in AAA which created a lot of feedback:

http://www.allaircraftsimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21060&highlight=bombsight+angle

The main idea is having a tool to determine in flight the required angle to adjust the sight (aim) of a bomber to release the bombs when you see the target and being able to hit what you want. A 3rd party program called BombSightTable 2 was widely used for this purpose, but it required to be launched before the IL-2, switching to it when in the bomber cockpit, etc.

With this new MOD you have the chance of knowing the angle while you are in the bombardier position, and you can adjust it with your typical commands for increasing / decreasing the bombsight angle. Later just release the bombs manually when you see the target.

It works only when you are flying a bomber class plane: not hunters, not divebombers. To calculate the angle the MOD assumes that:

•   You are flying horizontally (level bombing, no Vvert in the plane).
•   The terrain is more or less plain (the MOD measures the level of the plane referred to your current ground location).
•   There is no air friction for the bombs to produce non-parabolic path for the fall (that are not real conditions, but this is the behavior of the game which is not realistic in the bomb fall because doesn't calculate wind resistance).

New settings in v1.2:

The SpeedbarUnits now select not only the units bu also if the speed is shown as True Air Speed or normal:

SpeedbarUnits=1  (SI, International System = default)
SpeedbarUnits=2  (GB, British Imperial)
SpeedbarUnits=3  (US, US Imperial)
SpeedbarUnits=4  (TAS SI, International System)
SpeedbarUnits=5  (TAS GB, British Imperial)
SpeedbarUnits=6  (TAS US, US Imperial)

I always was worried about how difficult is to have in mind the different data informed by the planes and radio chatters between info provided in feets/mph and the world of the m/kph. So I added to the HUD a permanent report of the parameters in the Internation System units for us who are more accustomed to it. So I have added the ShowSIToo=1 setting in the [Mods] section of the Conf.ini file.

The ShowSIToo determines:
0: The operation is the same as the original Bomb Assist Speedbar and HUD Mod.
1: Apart from the units determined by SpeedbarUnits, you always have the SI (International System) present too (default is active).

Download:

Download Bombsight Assist Speedbar and HUD MOD v1.2, from here (v4.101m only)

Everything is implemented using the base of the HUDConfig V1 of Fireball to keep the very important features present on it. Many configuration options are available so I strongly suggest to read the entire ReadeMe inside the .rar

In the download are included extra gauges if you change the Units for meassuring speed and altitude in the HUD (non-cockpit view).

Some extra features have been implemented as they are the chance of seeing the speed, altitude and heading of other planes, and eventually enemy planes. I will strongly remark here that this last feature is ONLY available for Single Player missions (Single Missions or Campaigns) and not for any Multi-Player mode.

All the details about the operation and settings are in the ReadMe file.

  Regards,

                        Pablo

I have installed all your update of the Mission Pro , Mini Map and this one!

I must give you a great thanks for your update because , I feel your mod the greatest innovation in the game mission settings management!

All are work flawless apart that I haven't the double indication in the speedbar....like in the last shot you post above....

All the best!

I also don't have the (bracketed) speed indication either.

I am also unable to activate TAS. I have the conf entries as per the readme, and have also tried it with 'SpeedbarTAS=1' entered aswell but neither enable TAS.

I have a modded 4.09 running the earlier version of this mod with UP2.01 - this one works ok allowing me to select all 6 of the speedbar options.

Any ideas?

Sid, you have to note that the readme of the original version didn't have well explained the Speed configuration. Please read the readme of this v4.101m version.

With the speedbar setting of:

SpeedbarUnits=1  (SI, International System = default)
SpeedbarUnits=2  (GB, British Imperial)
SpeedbarUnits=3  (US, US Imperial)
SpeedbarUnits=4  (TAS SI, International System)
SpeedbarUnits=5  (TAS GB, British Imperial)
SpeedbarUnits=6  (TAS US, US Imperial)

  The last version for 4.09m should work OK. Now I don't remember clearly but I think that the (International System) units are only pressent in the 4.101m. Not sure, i Have to confirm that.

With the old HudConfig mod it was possible to remove the flight info text on the lower left side on the screen by default by typing SpeedbarUnits=0. It also worked in 4.10, but unfortunately it also removed the information regarding code letters for bearing to carriers in the Comms menu.
Would it be possible to get rid of the first by default and at the same time keep the latter.
Bowie.

I'm having trouble getting the hud guages that read both mph and kmh, feet and meters.  renaming hudleftmphkmh to hudleft didn't do it for me.  the conf ini has a "HUDGauges=2" as well.  Could anyone using this show me a conf.ini file and all they have under the  [MODS]  part of it Please.  I like this mod and would love to get these features working too ......ps. using the 4.101 version...

                Thanks, Freya

Bowie,
             I don't understand exactly what you don't see anymore. Do you mean that this MOD affects the Comms menu? Some options available there are not shown as a consequence of this MOD? I really don't see any chance of this going on as a result of this HUDConfig MOD. It only controls what is shown in the Speedbar, nothing to do with the classes that manage the menu.

  Have you disabled the MOD and confirmed that the same feature is available in 4.10? Perhaps it's not available in the new patch.

  If not please give more details because I don't figure out what exactly is missing (a print screen or something would be useful).

I'm sorry if I was unclear.
I don't think your mod interferes with the comms menu.
The thing is I would like to be able to remove the speedbar text by default (SpeedbarUnits=0). If it's not possible I will just start each mission by typing the appropriate key (Icons off) 3 times - no big deal!
Thanks for your answer.

OK Bowie,
                    now it's a little more clear. It's not a good idea to make SpeedbarUnits=0 the default behaviour by the simple reason that the default for the game with no MOD is with the speedbar active. With the No Speedbar difficulty setting (a per user setting that is saved) you can de-activate it by default without having to modify the Conf.ini, just from inside the game.

  I recommend you to use that setting.

Hey walter_solito.  I never used to get the bracketed stuff either until I did this in conf.ini:

[Mods]
PALNoTracers=0
PALNoSmoketrails=1
SpeedbarUnits=3
SpeedbarSpdKMH=1
SpeedbarSpdMPH=1
SpeedbarSpdKnots=1
SpeedbarAltMeters=1
SpeedbarAltFeet=1
HUDGauges=2
BombSightAssist=1
BombSightAssistConf=3
MixedSpeedbar=1
FullSpeedbar=1
PALMODsColor=1
ShowSIToo=1

most to note are the entries -  speedbarunits=3 and showSIToo=1.  At least thats my opinion.  If I'm wrong I'm sure benitomusso can clarify this for you,  but thats my two cents worth. hope it helps...
