The issue with 2.5D cockpits is simple. Via classfiles you could put a check in that tells the game engine whether or not the cockpit is full 3D and limit the usage of dynamic lighting. So this means the newer style pits e.g. Tempest and modded cockpits (some) can take full advantage of dynamic lighting and self shadowing, whilst older, non-suitable cockpits can use standard or a reduced form of lighting.

This is all pending someone finding a way to turn this feature on :)

What puzzles me, is that Hades seems to exactly know what he means..

So he knows that there is some shadow enabling code somewhere, and he seems to know almost exactly where, judging by his reply.
Now the puzzling part is; what is needed to get it done?

And it seems to me, that it was already done once, somehow..
