Hello,

For me this is THE biggest shortcoming/unresolved bug in IL2- the fact that tweeking of conf.ini file gets rid of black borders on a widescreen monitor, but at expense of chopping off top and bottom of the picture. See this clip:

Vast amounts of people are not even aware that the tunnel vision in widescreen IL2 is not a necessary evil, but just a bug. One way to deal with the problem is to use San's IL2 FOV changer ( http://il2fovchanger.byethost7.com/ )- a separate program that has be lonched along with (even unmodded) IL2 and it solves the problem of the tunnel vision completely, but brings in a problem of game stability and program crashes. When using San's FOV changer and switching zoom (gunsight/normal/wide) ingame, the FOV changer crashes once in 10-20 switches, forcing to restart the mission or quit online dogfight.

Now that we are in an age where MODS can even be packed into SFS, surely a MOD which would be internal, inside the code (as opposed to unstable external program like Sans)- quick, reliable aand very, very important to THOUSANDS of people with widescreens who currently either have to live with black borders and 4:3 view, cut off top/bottom of picture in widescreen view, or deal with constnat crashing of Sans FOV changer...

I've made this request to DT on several occasions, but nothing ever came from it- even though other people immediately quoted and supported the request. Maybe Oleg did not allow them to do it, but MODDERS have no such obligations!

+1, i use sans all the time, but it does piss me off the few occasions where it goes nuts.

although, i generally alt tab out now, close sans and restart it and tab back in to fix....

course, that means i don't use ffb anymore.

Tunnel vision is exactly how I feel when flying IL-2.
I've given up on Sans FOV changer a long time ago due to the problems described above.
A good FOV mod would be a revolution for this game.   :)
Great request.

Someone tries this?

Yes, it was a START in the right direction, but was abandoned before development was finished. Basically, you only have full picture when you enter console command, but the moment you zoom in (gunsight/normal view/6dof trackir) the mod immediatly stops working and you are left with screen that was cropped on top/bottom. You then have to reactivate it, and/or live with cropped picture in gunsight and normal views.

the fact that you have to use the console, kinda makes it even less user friendly than sans imo.

but its a definite step to what could be possible.

I agree. This is not solved from day one.
