Yeap, above 2 km. And gunsight is ineffective at ranges above ~800 m ATM.

Anyway, thanks for answers. Good luck on this one

Mati, you are not reading what I am saying. The gun is effective to 2km, the gunsite is NOT necessarily effective to 2km.

In fact, I can pull up some information that states the 800m is currently about correct ;)

hi,
so.. i read a few of java lines from the extracted class. looks like the gunsight either tracks the padlocked enemy or the closest enemy fighter, so at least it won't range a friendly
but i checked twister's me262 mod and it ranges the target closest to LOS which should be more proper.?

This. I knew I saw it somewhere. Must have been some later version.

Ok, thanks for answer. I was pretty sure I saw such mod (or rather a mod for a mod) changing target selection method from "shortest distance" to "closest to the center" back on AAS looong time ago. Wasn't sth like this made by Storbror actually? Whatever, I can't find it now. The base code for RR sights was written from scratch by Twister AFAIK.

As for range, I heard that in "Dogfighters" IIRC, not a reliable source of info indeed. Though I'm almost certain that the effective range of gunsight and balistic computer was a bit higher.

By the way, looking at some F-86 images I found these two:

Shots on last page..

It turns out that F-86F (or at least some of them) had a rearview mirror mounted on canopy. I guess don't need to tell anyone how helpful is the rear-view mirror for fighter pilot

All F-86 variants except the prototype have the mirror, on some videos you see them mounted off (new videos).
This was my main concern from the beginning with that cockpit, also pm'd a buddy at Histo for that matter.
The F-80C mirror, mounted offset the canopy frame and maybe a tad edited, would be optimal.
I can provide pictures for every F-86 variant (almost) and also detailed pictures and a video showing the mirror from a new video of 2010 IIRC.
Only thing I cannot is model 3D or afford to learn these days since my RL is suckingly busy.
To conclude, you are right, no other plane of that era has a more trademark mirror.
Then again, the front section of the cockpit is not 100% correct as well, the front bow has a different shape in RL on all shots.

Cheers

PS: Knowing that most modders have their hands full I would suggest keeping this a minor issue..there are new planes inbound and tbh, neither HistoMod nor DBW has the terribly sophisticated FMs 100% anyway. To get those straight, you needed to add extra FM work which I am quite confident would be  close to impossible to model in IL-2. To me there's little point in extra work on a plane that works perfectly in all modded versions and is sufficiently realistic modelled.
Let's pretend the mirror is strapped off, they are mounted on a holding device under the canopy (stripped) and can be easily removed...would be nice to have, but not worth ruining busy modder's days. I would personally feel sick if I did that (again  :D ) to a modder. I rather wait for the finished Mig-21, more fun anyway, trust me. ;)
But I have to say the Jet Era Sabres, except one bug which seems not squashable, are very clean modelled and my boss at HistoMod also reworked the FMs of the Sabres for the next version.

No mirror here, you see where it is stripped..

Haha! Yes it will be this year. I was hoping to have it out by now, but waiting on getting the updates packed into SFS.

Regarding radar-ranging code: At the time when the radar sites were added to mod early on it was using the latest code. If Twisted has made something since then which is more accurate, then I'll look at adding it.

So does the late January date still stand or is it going to be postponed a little bit more? Sorry if I sound impatient I'm just really hyped up for the awesome work you are doing!

Tried all of the features this pack of power has, must say, a great job! Especially with the air refuelling, so hard but fun once mastered!  :)

Kaxii, late January was the aim. It is all ready to go but still having issues in regards to getting it packed into SFS.

And yep it does mean when this is out, the MiG-21 is very close behind. All it needs is some final documentation.
