and by the sounds of it won't be done for a very long time, but the MiG is meant to be out anytime now they are just sorting out some problems with other mods to do with the MiG which help it do all the new features it has.

They first need to release SAS Engine mod 2.6 stable and new version of this mod (JW 1.3) before they release Fishbed. So, thiese mods can be expected out anytime soon and MiG-21 shortly after.

We have missed our intended releases but again due to change in circumstances. I've stepped back from modding for a while due to personal matters. We're also expecting 4.12m to drop any time soon which will cause coding issues. Finally, we are waiting for some minor 3D bug fixes with the MiG-21 cockpits and landing gear. If we were able to put in a few days solid work, all would be out by now but due to our limited time, things have gone from moving quickly with a release date in sight, to slow and delayed.

If this is any consolation, the day before I started my new placement in hospital, JetWar v1.3 was ready to be uploaded and released. It was only delayed because some bugs popped up in the SAS Engine Mod which it needs to run.

*BUMP*

Version 1.3 is finally out. Thank you to everyone for your patience, it has been a long haul. Please ensure you are running SAS Engine Mod v2.6 RC Final and latest SAS buttons to take advantage of this mod.

We've included one incomplete feature to trial and that is the radar on the MiG-17PF. We never got around to finishing it properly but it is somewhat functional. To view it, press the 'Change Position' key. Note that the X axis is incorrectly reading elevation, when it should be showing range. Elevation was displayed through use of different symbols e.g --- for a level target, whilst _|_ would indicate a target at 10+ degrees of elevation). This may be fixed in the future but no guarantee. For now, consider it a bonus easter egg.

Enjoy and thank you all for your patience :) The MiG-21 won't be far off now.

Another major milestone in IL-2 jet fighting has been reached :) Am waiting paitantly for the Fishbeds.

A really cheesy question: what did the Sirena-2 that was removed do anyways? I'm not as familer with the avionics on the Russian planes as I am on the USAF jets.

And another quick Q: are the MiG-21s that you're going to release consist of the 2nd- and 3rd-generation MiG-21s? Or is it just the 2nd-gen you're releasing? I think I read in the WIP topic that one of your team had a hard-drive crash and lost a ton of stuff related to the 3rd-gen MF and Bis models...

Anyway while I can't wait for the 21s, by all means don't rush the project. Better to take the time to completely cook the cake methodicaly rather then rush the baking, right? ;)

Sirena-2 is a radar warning receiver system which was able to forewarn the pilot that an enemy aircraft with a radar-ranging gunsight was on their tail. That is basically it. The MiG-17PF never officially carried one as it's role was purely as a bomber interceptor. Later radar warning receivers were more sophisticated and were able to detect any radar threat (e.g. missile lock, being tracked by ground radar etc.) and from all aspects.

For the MiG-21s, just the 2nd gen (PF/PFM/FL) will be released to begin with. The 3rd gens aren't far off but need a tiny bit more work.

So it's an RWR that basically says "Ivan, you've got a Sabre on your ass!" Was it possible for a Sabre pilot defeat the Sirena by turning off the gunsight?

All that aside, am really liking 1.3. Seems to run fine on my DBW 1.71 install despite the laundry-list of mods I have. That's always a plus.

Good to hear you're concentrating on the 2nd-gen MiGs. Honestly, I'm much more intrested in those since IMO, the post-Vietnam war stuff is a long way off and IIRC it was the PFs and the FLs that primarily opposed the Wolfpack Phantoms over Hanoi.

Well now, I think it's my bedtime now...if I can sleep from the anticipation... :)
