Windows XP?
« on: May 21, 2011, 09:33:57 PM »

So Ive played with this hippie free ware 'ubuntu' and found it to be the worse thing since DOS. Sorry, I'm through typing commands.
Figure Ill go onto ebay and pick up an old copy of Windows XP, strip it down to the bone and use it to run IL2.
Anyone having any problems running IL2 in XP? I know it runs fine in 7, and I had XP before with IL2, I just don't remember if it ran well or not! ;D
But seriously any XP related problems with IL2?

No problems at all. In fact, the sim runs remarkably well on Windows XP. In my opinion, it is the platform of choice for IL-2!

40$  professional is geared for people who run business programing, home edition is for the kiddies and the casual home user, good enough to run the game on I suppose.

Yep, the main difference between XP Home and Pro edition is XP's ability to connect (login) to a server (or servers) on a LAN/WAN. Pro also includes Remote Desktop, NTFS, and roaming user profiles. Another major difference is XP's support for multiple processors. In a nutshell, Pro is more suited to corporate (business) use than home use, but if you can get a copy for cheap I would go with Pro. However, in terms of gaming, IL-2 will not know the difference!

Windows XP professional IS windows XP

Windows XP home, is Windows XP, crippled. It is the crap they preloaded on PC's you buy at the supermarket.

But if you ever plan on playing any of the newer games, CLiffs of Dover or any new releases you need one of the new operating systems, because Windows XP does not support Direct X 10. But if you don't have a new computer this year then you won't need to worry about that.

Ive already got one that runs 7. I'm going to put XP on my laptop and on an IL2 only hard drive in my otherwise windows 7 desk top.

As to Fail over Dover, well, they can shove it as long as its associated with steam.  ;)
Dang, no buggy 3 frames per second gaming for me, too bad. :D
EDIT: I do appreciate the feedback verhangnis, its just that every time I think about CoD I get pissed.
