I'd not just not trust it, I'd even warn and advise not to install nor even to download it.
I just went to Project's own website and downloaded the patch directly from their site, which immediately triggered a Dropper.gen trojan warning after downloading finished.

Thanks, but no thanks.

Best regards - Mike

Never had any xp issues; on the other hand I do like windows 7.

On the other other hand, ubuntu saved my laptop when it had a heart attack, I salvaged all my data, so yeah, it has a space in my heart.

I would 1st ask OF or Mods to remove the link to a possible trojan source... they're are people who click on any link to just link from boredom, and then moan about it.

'XP' from among the Microshaft monopolies products is more likely the best for IL2, or used as the program compatability setting.
I unfortunately have only ever had a XP as a O/S I understand somewhat limitedly (Currently; Media Edition + Service Pack 3 = XP Profesional?). Fortunately, I haven't gone Vista or 7 cos' it's taken Microshit 8+ years to get XP working, let alone the stories I've heard about with Vista, more than of 7's.

I wish I could uninstall XP-SP3 without being able to totally reformat & reinstall because of my Duff brand laptop it's repair & reinstallation discs are useless. Unless you have specific problems solved by it, I wouldn't go XP-SP3 if you can help it, afaik, SP2 is still has current windows updates.

It did make my XP a little more quirky - random occasional temporary freezing, problems, reactivating or changing settings/options of Outlook and Internet Explorer for their hidden processes, & their unneeded internet functions not requested by myself or my system requirements - settings to minimise 'Windows coded-in back door' weaknesses to the internet that I had set. Generally for me, it's almost as bug free as SP2 was. Oh, you cannot uninstall Internet Explorer or Outlook, as Wierdows needs them to work!

Although service updates are sorting problems, and I never had the serious problems of some XP Pro users had with SP3 had when it was released 3+ years ago, which were akin to Vista's total or blue screen crashing. I'm still not sure if XP Pro Edition (SP2) is now stable/compatable with SP3.

I have all four op. systems on my hd which is quartered for each one and running 32 and 64 bit with 2 i7 980 chips with 18gig of ram  The way to do this is put il2 on the local c drive or if partitioned like me the local drive letter for each os system. This includes the 32bit flavor. Never had a problem il2 runs great. The xp os. has matured quite well and win7 will come along shortly still working out the bugs. The main reason why when people put programs in the file list instead of the local drive is the black hats from Redmond, WA. thinking is to stop the use of the ini file to change the way a program works dumb. On my laptop I am using xp pro. il2 on local c drive works quite well and sp3 when configured right makes any xp work right. Go to blackviper.com for the way to confiqure sp3.
One more item turn off automatic updates to notify but "do-not download"!!!!!!!!!!!

I use Windows since 95 edition, was very CTD prone. 98/SE, the same. 2000 was slightly less CTD prone, XP still got me headaches.
Vista, well I know how to deal with it. If I switch to classic style I can have 98/SE-2000 optics, but without frequent CTDs or Blue-screens.
