Rgr that, Thnaks for the clarifcation. I lots count by now jeje. So that would make the J-20 a 4th gen? comparable to an F 16 block 30 is my guess regarding avionics ans stuff, no super manourability of any kind, more akin to earlly SU 27's. And Yes any conclusion about past events is debatable, of course.
OT, I beluve that the F 35 is teh righth choice of development for the US, since IMHO, teh 6th gen will be unmanned... Unfortunatlly...

Thats if its ment to be a fighter

Looking at it it seems more like a strike aircraft, which could pose a threat if it got within striking distance of a Carrier, thats a big if I know but stranger things have happened

Still, ultra manoueverability doesnt count for shit when theres superior numbers. If anyone can do that, its the chinese... Just cos its a copy doesnt mean it isnt viscious.

when a f117 crashed in Afghanistan/Iraq (im not sure)

Wasn't rather the F-117 shot down over yugoslavia? If chinese bought the parts I think it is a rather small revenge for the "accidental" bombing of their embassy in around same period. :D

It was downed by a SA-3 with a modified radar over Serbia by the Yugoslav Army.

you are absolutely right, thats the whole story in short version  :)

I visit the Aviation Museum frequently here in Belgrade. Some of the pieces of the F-117 are on display along with the cockpit. A little 3-D work and they will have a new flyable!

For a sixth or seventh generation fighter...get this...it must have direct precision energy weapons that can instantly destroy other aircraft, and while Boeing and Nasa have developed a giant airborne laser, the problem is that it is GIANT!  not to mention the amount of energy these things require.

It can shoot down drones and ballistic missles so far, they also have something like an arty piece for the ground.

I think the J-20 is more a Tactical Air Support/Maritime Strike or a Ranged Interceptor type bird, especially since it so big - think of it like a modernised Flaggon.
The Chinese have the J-10's & Su25/27/30's for fighter cover, let alone all the MiG-21 based variants still in service. Also the (proposed?) J-12 R&D bird - a re-done J-10 with RCS reducing features.
Ah the flying chemical laser, thats about as small as it can go - since the 60's they've been trying to make a flying anti missle/mirv vehicle - atleast now it has enough power & contol hit & damage test targets through short range atmo' distortion.
