What are your thoughts on the Chinese J-20 aircraft?

you could say: they used their best ability: copy things

what they made is a collection of the current top fighter aircraft put into one plane: stealth shape from f22/35, canards from Eurofighter... and so on

but as we all know a copy can never be as good as the original 

by the way: you may be wondering where they got the stealth technology from: when a f117 crashed in Afghanistan/Iraq (im not sure) the chinese bought parts of the wreck from  locals, who collected them from the crash site

Wasn't rather the F-117 shot down over yugoslavia? If chinese bought the parts I think it is a rather small revenge for the "accidental" bombing of their embassy in around same period.

It was downed by a SA-3 with a modified radar over Serbia by the Yugoslav Army.

You guys remember when in 1945, damaged B-29 bombers who had no other place to land landed in Russia? Well, the russians did not give back the B-29's (3 of them) till they had design plans for the TU-4. Only 60yr's difference, and were experienceing the same problem.

America and Western Europe spends a buttload of time and money on R&D,developing prototypes,etc.Why not let them do the expensive stuff and just copy it?To do otherwise is foolish.A poor country can't afford to do anything else.

i would put my money on the f-22 against any thing that is out there.

Well Yeah, teh F 22 is a 6th or 7th generation plane and the J 20 is a 5th gen with some luck. But given teh needs of teh chineese, they don't need much more than that. I am sure that is not as capable as its western counterparts, but when you can produce and field 10 times more planes than NATO can, who cares about cuality right?...Ask teh Luftwaffe how it fared with clearlly superior planes aggainst hords of less capable russian planes

The Luftwaffe thing can be debated, but as for the F-22, it is a 5th generation fighter not 6th or 7th.  U.S. doesn't have any plans for 6th generation yet, and if it does they're not released to the public yet
