FW 189 A-4 Ground Attack and Nacht Jaeger Variants
« on: May 25, 2011, 09:57:45 PM »

A couple of  FW 189 Uhu variants would be fairly straightforward mods, it seems to me...
   FW189 A-1 Nacht Jaeger

Same fundamental structure as the in game Uhu - same engines, and same fuselage.
I believe the Same flight model should suffice.
For the A-1 Nacht Jaeger, delete the mid upper defensive Mg, and replace with a
single barrel 20mm MGFF or MG 151/20 Schrage Musik installation.
Installation of FuG 212C-1 (Lichtenstein) radar in cockpit
Installation of flame dampers to engine exhaust
About 30 x A-1s were modified to this variant in 1944, mostly to attack Soviet night
bombers, though some were assigned to Norway.

   FW 189 A-4 Uhu Schlacht
Replace the wing root 7.92 Mgs with 20mm MGFFs or MG 151/20s .
Add possible ordnance loads of 4 x (23 bomb containers of 2kg Butterfly Bombs)
   or
   4 x 50 kg bombs.

Under fuselage, engine nacelles and fuel tanks were given light armoured
protection, likely at the cost of some performance.

I think these would be quite interesting both to use as AI in late war scenarios, and quite challenging and interesting to fly.

Could you survive in the FW 189 NJ against a late war Mosquito?

Could you survive a low level interdiction mission against the Americans in foul flying weather the Ardennes in December 1944, or against Red Army Yaks in the Balaton/Budapest gap in Hungary in March 1945?

I'd like to know!

Sincerely,
Kopfdorfer

I'm just bumping this on my own - my own post - how shameless,
because of the movement on DBW, and what seems to my mind to be some relatively simple modifications and FM/DM adjustments to provide two new aircraft.

Nacht Jaeger

Although this is the stock variant, I love the colours of the photo

And the unique camo of this one

Apologies for the self bump.

FW-189C close support variant

The Fw-189C was basically a normal Fw-189, but it had a heavily armored small cockpit for the pilot and rear gunner. It's armament was two forward facing wing root 7.92 machine guns, two unknown cannons (most likely 20mm cannons), and one rear facing trainable 7.92 machine gun.

Thats all I got. Hope to see it.

Normally I don't post disagreements with other requests , but since I started this thread I am going to take the liberty.
Always when I make an aircraft request it is with the intent to broaden the "historical representation" possible within Il2.
If you read my requests you will note that there are never fantasy requests , and I do not focus on prototypes or variants
that did not see combat.
(The only place I would soften on this would be the "what if" German and Italian Carrier borne options for the carriers that were not completed - but construction WAS started on. They are in the game after all.)
I also usually attempt to keep my requests within one of 2 main streams :
1) historical aircraft that somehow had an effect on the air war during or before ww2
2) an addition or slight modification to an aircraft already represented , for instance more historical loadouts , correction of technical specs , revised armament , etc.

In this vein I would like to say that my initial request for the FW189 Uhu variants was in a thread of mod requests that did not require a new aircraft slot. This was several years ago , and I believe the thread has since been deleted. The point is that the Nachtjaeger version of the Uhu and the Ground Attack Version which I had intended (FW189A-4) require few enough changes that
I  had hoped they could be installed as loadout variations on the current Uhu slot , and not require the use of a new slot.

Just wanted to add my two cents worth since we seem to be getting a lot of chat about an aircraft that was never operational , and it was never my intent to suggest or support.

By all means members may have their own opinions on these things , and I understand how this prototype emerged in this thread , however it was never my intent as the thread originator to introduce or support this aircraft.

I am requesting politely that the supporters of the FW 189 V6 originate their own thread and respect this one for its original intent.
If it is within my bounds to do so , perhaps the admins could separate these.

If it would help the reading members , perhaps the title of this thread should be altered to :

"FW 189 A-4 Ground Attack and Nacht Jaeger Variants"

Sincerely ,

Sorry,

The original request had slipped out of sight, so I combined the threads to save space and encourage interest in all variants of this fascinating little aircraft.

I know that most modders like to have a subject that they can get their teeth into, so to speak, and it would be a shame to lose the link between all of the possibilities.

For some reason that heavily armored Fw 189 always reminds me of something from the Star Wars.
