What happened to the Short Stirling British bomber
« on: June 01, 2011, 03:31:44 PM »

There was a wip thread at AAA some time ago about the Short Stirling British bomber.I'm not sure who it was that was making it but,if I remember right it looked like it was darn near complete and ready to go into the game.Does anyone remember the thread and the project I'm thinking of?The way I have it figured it must have died some time ago or we'd have been flying it by now.

AAA times have been over for what... 2 years now? If nobody has progressed or spoken about it, i would suggest to count it as dead.

I don't think it was that far advanced.  The LOD0 external model may have been close to complete but that is just the first stage in modelling.

My stirling is very very far from being completed, (if it will be ever completed). I dont have the time to work on it, I'm busy with other projects, So I say just go ahead and do it! :D I made a mistake when I was working on

Well, the model is still here completed at LOD0 stage plus maybe some other lods and things I can't remember. However we basically decided that it would be too hard to import a whole new 4 engine aircraft from scratch. (Something which still hasn't been done yet AFAIK). You can see how long it's taken us with the MiG-21 for comparison. The more engines, the more workload say an extra 50% more work per engine added on the base of 100% for a normal one engine aircraft. Maybe someday we will put it into CoD but atm it's not destined to be in IL2. Maybe csocso could elaborate a bit further but that's the general reasoning.

hmmm might sound sacrilegious but.... couldnt the Lancaster classes and stuff, being a 4 engined heavy, be used as a place holder and at least have the model ingame,
albeit inaccurate? I know a lot of people would disagree with this but then again Id say lots would like it too. I know you guys are perfectionists and it really shows so this is probably a non runner :D

but the lancaster is nothing but a re-hacked Liberator... so... why heat up food that has already been heated up after having been cooked in the first place? why not start frankenplaning a Stirling out of a Liberator, to keep things clean, "simple" and less confusing
