Well, the model is still here completed at LOD0 stage plus maybe some other lods and things I can't remember. However we basically decided that it would be too hard to import a whole new 4 engine aircraft from scratch. (Something which still hasn't been done yet AFAIK). You can see how long it's taken us with the MiG-21 for comparison. The more engines, the more workload say an extra 50% more work per engine added on the base of 100% for a normal one engine aircraft. Maybe someday we will put it into CoD but atm it's not destined to be in IL2. Maybe csocso could elaborate a bit further but that's the general reasoning.

Well there's work being done on Me-264 and Ta-400

Yep and currently the Stirling model is still ahead of the Me-264 and Ta-400 in that respect ;)

It's a finished model, whereas the others still need work to finish it at LOD0 stage. None of these aircraft have been imported and completed. A lancaster was imported into IL2 a while back but as you can see we still don't have that one. So again as I said there still hasn't been a complete 4 engine aircraft done from scratch and completed.

I have such clear memories of seeing this girl in development - stunningly beautiful (lime-green :) ) renders of a great looking (okay, iconic-looking ;) ) plane. It's a great shame that it's too much work to import properly, as they were so so important in the war and would be fantastic to have in game, but the AMT should be rightly proud of the amazing work that's already been put into her, it shows :) Wow, long sentence.

With a relatively low ceiling, short range with maximum bombload, great handling (able to out-turn German twin-engined fighters and preferred by some pilots over the Lancaster) and a very very wide variety of uses...isn't she the perfect bomber for a campaign that's both historical and yet retains a broad appeal?

...sorry, it must be annoying to have people like me who just lurk and love mods rather than actually getting involved and helping with them commenting, but just can't help myself  ::) The model is great, and for me represents the amazing anything-is-possible attitude of modders, and I for one would love to see that alone in-game, even if it handles and acts like a B-17 or whatever because she deserves to be out there being used and appreciated. If in time there's a will and a capacity to bring a fully-fledged new aircraft into the game, well then that would be absolutely brilliant :) But is there not a way for the work done so far to be taken into the sky? Would be fantastic to see her in-game in some way :)

Anyway, all the best, and as ever, thank you AMT and to all the modders here (and elsewhere!) for the astounding things you all do to improve Il-2 beyond recognition time and again...and again...and again - you're great  8)

The problem isn't the flight model, its the massive ammount of work merely with the importation and then animation of everything. Handling is the least of the issues. If that was the case, then you'd have our old Pure-Lancaster already.

Speaking of the Lancaster. I went looking in the weapons for it's load in the i18n folder and didn't see it. Did I miss it or is the chance it will be added with the Tallboy 12,000 lb  Grand Slam 22,000 lb.  All I saw was the Cookies 4,000lb.

Oh wow, that's why I don't usually post - late, tired, and a glass of wine makes for a rambling post  ::)

Good to see you Magpie, got great memories of the Lanc too! I'm sorry, though not surprised, that what seems comparatively simple to us punters who just get to play with the end result is in fact long, complicated and difficult. It's never in doubt, but tempting to forget. Oh well, it was nice to be reminded of the old girl and see another shot of her - lets hope her time will come.

ps. Mags, the Fury/Nimrod was a great idea and got my finger's x'd that NZ is allowed some time off natural disasters - about time the Whirly had some good luck!

I still want to see a Stirling get to the game because Short used the very same wing in their Sunderland flying boat.  Also, there's instances that Lancaster crews would break into cheers because Stirlings BELOW them would catch most of the flak.

Well, that's grand. No doubt efforts will redouble now.
