Links to great Template Sites and Request to all Skinners
« on: June 05, 2011, 07:59:56 AM »

Hi guys

This is a catagory of skinning that is a bit neglected, sadly, as it is the core of skinning, without which nothing is possible.

There are onyl a few artsist capable of making good layers for skinhning, and even fewer who can make complete templates, and, unfortunately, only a handfull of those, who are willing to share those templates.

A sadness! As many skinners migrate to other sims or drop out of the sim world, and sites close down, awesome templates get lost forever. With the making of FBDSM, we have experienced first hand the tragic shortage and loss of some templates, or the witholding of great templates from the public, or the frustration of a new 3d model launched without a template, or templates of that also being witheld. It seems that, if you manage to find the guy who made the best template for a plane, and ask him to share it, usually the answer is no, if you get any answer at all.

I would like to call on all skinners who make templates and layers to please please considder sharing them. And all those who have websites that host templates, to please share the links. Let the great attitude of the guys at Axis & Allied Paintworks be an example to all.

Even if you just share some new layers for another template.

I will start off by listing some places where IL2 templates can be found:

http://www.asisbiz.com/il2/IL2-Patches-Fixes/IL2-Patches-Fixes.html (just a great place to find that "lost" template, sometimes)
http://aviaskins.com/download.aspx?lang=en (Aviaskins have many templates, especialy for russian planes)
http://www.pavlac.fr/spip.php?rubrique3 (A great skinner shares his templates generously)
http://downloads.flightsimfiles.com/category/127 (Fantastic resource of templates)
http://www.simmerspaintshop.com/forums/dlcat-templates-il-2-series-5/ (great, templates, awesome collaction)
http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads2&c=61 (templates for stock planes)
http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&c=15 (templates for some mods)

A&A paintworks also have awesome templates, and they share them here with links. They can be tricky to find blindly at A&A, because their forum does not have (afaik) a central board for templates. Luckily they link us in whenever a good one comes out. Cudos guys!

If anyone has links, or has a tamplate, this is board, please share.

Hi Guys
Here are My fully Layered  Cliffs of Dover Templates which
include Paint, Lines & Rivets,Internal Elements [some 3D], Weathered & Markings etc.
They  should be fully compatible with Photoshop and Gimp.
You will need Winrar[Free] or WinZip to extract these files.
Fell free to use as you wish and any acknowledgement would be appreciated.
Regards
Keith;-)

Hi there,

has anyone knowledge about a Tiger Moth Template?

I am not able to build my own template for this plane, but I need one for making a campaign.

The skins I found, are not the ones, who fit the "requirements". But I can build them on a template as well.

Best regards

What is hard for us  is making a template from nothing, in the begining of IL2 the planes added to the games have a void really simple to work with , later when many modded planes was added to the game void were not provided , some don t even have skins to start working scratch built something for them just the one hide somewere in the game  only few  could have acces with 3d artist ,  ,  some good template layer come out once in a wild by influant member or 3d artist who make them  but many of them still need to be scratch build from nothing by simple skinner like me as i cannot find anything else , take my He51 skins as good exemple  , where i manage to built my own template base on simple game skins for parts location and some hard to find blueprint on the net cause impossible for me to find anything eles , then the 3d model is also a other thing you have to guest sometime , were many test  ,try and failure have to be overcome, it' s not only skinning something , it s find location of the parts on obscure 3d square without any hint  , builting panel line ,rivet and inboard mecanic from nothing , all this could be easily avoid just by having a simple  void, then you can start building paint and weathering layer . Total many many hours too , spend in front of a computer just for one planes not available   .  then once you start sharing your hard work , really really few poeple-s even comment your post , even after thousand of download ,,,, unfortunatly for us  simple skinners in marge of the il2 community , comment is the only reward  maybe that why many skinners leave the community , skinning is huge time consummer too for people who's not photoshop 3d model for living but just as passion for old planes and game sim...
