If the image on the b/w screen is an aerial photo of Minsk then it looks very similar to the city layout you have created.  :)

Yes, it is. Aerial photo of WWII times is the basis of 7 textures 1024 x 1024 pixels large , increased by a factor -2 in load.ini,  covering the Minsk area. Size is 1 : 1 .

Gerhard,
your kisses were delivered and accepted with delight. About 7 yrs ago, our tomcat depicted in my avatar deceased because of cancer he gained after fighting with other outdoor cats, so  I understand your sorrow.

I'm afraid that there are not too much available photos of Pinsk which will be usable for our purposes :(.
Please see in post #61 https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,16313.msg263958.html#msg263958: few military maps from period before 1939, plans 1939-1943, and one aerial photo (unfortunately not very high dpi).
When I'll find something new - it will be there (in post #61 of course).
Hm, maybe I'll try to recreate military base in Pinsk with FMB, using default objects from DBW 1.71?

Thanks, Uzin. It works fine in DBW 1.71. So does your excellent East Balt map. I've used that in a couple of campaigns. Give your cat a treat from me. I ADORE cats.

cheers

Hello,
is it possible to correct on Your map land elevation in the area surrounding Pinsk?
On the map there are a lot of hills (even the town is located on the hillside).
In reality, there is a large flat area on the both banks Pina River (Pinsk Marshes - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinsk_Marshes).
Best regards,
L.

There is an issue w the game engine. To place bridges across rivers, the ground elevation has to be set to 0.00 in the vicinity. So it is difficult to set large towns on rivers at above 0.00 elevation.

Hi, ls and mandrill,
these points of elevation around Pinsk were repaired a lot time ago - the map released was a very preliminary one, not for ordinary use yet.  These points arose from the microdem radar erratic readings in the swamps, I think.
Sorry for being yet unable to release the repaired version I am working on, be patient, please. Now I am approaching to an end of populating Minsk 8 phototextures with -2 enlargement .
I am hesitating if  not to employ Carsmasters 2048 or 4096 size pixtures

http://dispersalfield.ru/main/index.php/topic,705.0.html

instead (read pp. 1 to 10, please), what can save load.ini slots for making more cities by phototextures obtained owing the Gromm very appreciated effort. This, however, might be another delay of the release date.
Thank you everybody for your interest in the map, it helps me to overcame some burnout syndrome I feel sometimes. It is perhaps too great the task for an old man I am.  ;)

There is an issue w the game engine. To place bridges across rivers, the ground elevation has to be set to 0.00 in the vicinity. So it is difficult to set large towns on rivers at above 0.00 elevation.
But there is no such necessity. Pinsk is very low located (on pictures You can see surface of ground almost on the same level with river - these plains on spring was always an overflow area).
So my proposition is to locate Pinsk and opposite bank of the Pina River as low as possible.
Regards,
LS
