Just asking if it would be possible for a SR-71 to be flyable in IL-2, specifically if the games engine could fly a plane past mach 3.

The speed is not an issue here as (according to Einstein) it is all relative anyway nor is the Radar a concern - the big question is can you do all that is required to make this into an IL2 compatible model - with working cockpit ?

If the answer is yes ............. JFDI . ....... live the dream  ..................  ;)

But, with the new edition of radar inside the game, the SR-71 could be used as radar by flying high over enemy terrority, letting the friendly aircraft get a fix on the enemy aircraft, and the enemy planes wont even know were the friendly fighters are (unless there getting info from ground radar, but still after they escape the range of ground radar, they have lost them)

SR-71 isn't an AWAC aircraft, it is a high-speed recon aircraft. It's purpose is to fly long boring, dangerous missions at high altitude at high speed and take photographs which then spend weeks in an analysis lab. Thought they planned on making a fighter version of it, the SR-71 isn't designed to be one. Even though this bird definitely is high up in the coolest aircraft of all time, it currently doesn't have much of a place in Il-2 I hate to say.

Really, it's the type of plane you can properly enjoy in FSX, where you can spend hours cruising continent to continent at ridiculous speeds with a proper flight model.

Well, it could be a good target if someone decides to make a MiG 25. Now, seriouly, if you want and you can,  do it, man.

So do we have any modders interested in fixing IL-2 high altitude stuff now?
