Connection question for on-line fliers

I have never participated in any on-line flying, as I have always had a very bad connection (the back woods of Maine are not known for blazing internet speeds).  I am now on a satellite, but I figure the uplink/downlink time would give some pretty bad lagging.  Is anyone else here using a satellite connection and playing successfully?  Thanks in advance...
