Perhaps a dumb question here, but should I have extracted into my game folder?

Imagine an egg.

I know as much about this stuff as the egg knows about its daddy
No! Make a new folder on your desktop and extract the files you want into that.Don't clutter up your main game folder,it's already cluttered enough with the games files.

Dude you just can't paste a picture here or on any websight for that matter.First you have to upload your pic to a picture hosting sight like Photobucket (ITS FREE) then you post the link to your pic here or where ever. And here's how to use the extractor.(Hit Ctrl and scroll your mouse wheel away from you to make the pictures bigger) Just a quick question and I mean no disrespect here but,are you a new first time computer user?  :-X

After you have the SFSExtractV31 RAR file opened up with 7zip you will have a new folder on your desktop named SFSExtractV31,open it up,you will see the SFSExtract exe inside. Click on it you will see this. Now click on file and Open new Navigate to your main game folder and choose the SFS file you want to open     After you have it opened choose the files you want to extract (Notice that I have created a new folder on my desktop and named it extracted sfs files)And have changed the Output Root Folder at the bottom of the extractor to reflect the new destination  Now go ahead and click on Extract Selected and when the little box come up in the middle of your screen press Yes.   You will now see the files you extracted in the new folder you create,in my case here they are in the folder I named extracted sfs files.

That's great dasboot the only thing you did wrong was setting your photobucket account to private,no one can see your screenshot without logging in with a password.Make your account share with all (Basically Free File Sharing).

Check out this link dasboot, maybe it will help.  http://www.craig.copperleife.com/tech/crc_error.htm  Also I don't know how you opened the extractor RAR file when you first got it but, try downloading it again and open it this time with 7zip which you can Google and download for free.

Thanks Gumpy I'll check it out. 7zip is what I use anyway. (Its one thing I have figured out, but I bet somebody helped) anyway, I select the four files hit the extract button, the first three pop out fine and I get the screenshot on the .lst file. Oh well. I will check out the link you sent; I'm curious as to whether the extractor will work properly without it.

If I might indulge another question - my understanding of what will happen here is I extract the map I want, I get my geography edits done. I copy my modded map into the root maps folder and when the game loads it will look in that folder first, and thus load the mod rather than the still compiled 'usual' map. Is this correct? Extrapolating, then I provide the map to the assclowns I fly with (they're not offended, it's our squadron) they stick it in the root maps folder and we fly on my modded map ?

Thank you for your help with this

That is a question that will have to be answered by a map maker because I have no idea.

Dasboot,
it clearly means that the file you have downloaded is corrupt. Have you tried to download it again? If so and the result was the same, tell me and I will try to upload it again, but it was downloaded many times and the file always was healthy.

  Regards,
