Basic how-to with the SFS extractor:

Do I need to locate it in a certain folder - i.e. as part of the Ubisoft folder?

I just d/l-ed it and am a complete virgin as to how to get it to work!

No, you don't. You can put it wherever you want, inside your hard disk. I set it into a folder named IL2_Tools, where I have all this kind of stuff (Flight Model Tools, GIMP, MshConverter1.18, etc.).

Very useful tool: PAL will be never thanked enough for it!

Cheers,

Mandrill, there isn't any formal documentation of it.

You could read some tips here (because my version is a reversion with extra features of this one):

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,7017.0.html

Check some of the references in the first page too but I would say it is quite intuitive. Features and menues names and labels are more than clear.

It's too late I think but I want to extract
E:\Program Files (x86)\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\parts\bob "bob_plane.SFS"

And it said

"Cannot mount SFS file."

*cough*
You do know that we're modding IL-2 1946 here, not IL-2 Cliffs of Dover, do you?

Dear friends!

Please help! How to extract the default air.ini and all other inis from SFS archive of Il-2 4.13.4? I've downloaded and installed this extractor utility and extracted files from files.SFS, but could not find any inis in them, only files named like 000C189939E32A1F etc, which cannot be opened. Why I need default inis, because everytime I want to add any new aircraft or tank/vehicle in the available inis from other mod packs the game crashes. That's why I need the default inis in order to install all mods step by step.

Why do you post the same thing twice?
Your question is being dealt with here: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,7017.msg639177.html#msg639177
To all others, please ignore Marat's last post. Thanks.

Cheers!

Sorry, Mike!

I just wanted to resolve my problem as soon as possible, as I am stuck with these issues for more than one month without the light at the end of the tunnel)

Just to ask, what does the database file and stuff do..? I mean it takes a lot of patience to open 30 SFS files at one, and since it has a file list/database thing, does this help in speeding up the opening of SFS files or is it completely unrelated..?

If so, any way to speed up the opening of many a SFS files? Or should I just wait patiently?

Sounds like you're trying to extract some specific content but don't know in which SFS archive it resides.
If so, there's better tools available for that task than to manually extract SFS archives.
If that's what you're planning to do, give me a shout on PM please.
