Night Flying
« on: June 22, 2011, 01:53:08 AM »

Guys, I never really did any night flying much but since the dark has gotten darker I find it impossible to fly! Got that great nacht mission generator but I just cant seem to get anywhere. Anyone else feeling the same or is there any advice? Or even a way to restore the old darkness settings?

Its all about instruments!
Honestly I very rarely look out the window, unless Im getting Naxos hits or I hear the buzzing of twin merlins.
I stay 100% focused on my gauges.

If you're in a bomber, concentrate on your gauges, it should be the duty of the gunners and other positions to warn you of attacks. Il2 doesn't show it very well - read any account of the bomber offensives, usually the pilot concentrates on keeping the plane on the navigator's course and the first thing he knows of the enemy attack is when the shells rip through the aircraft, or a gunner yells for him to corkscrew. None of this looking out for the enemy because the ai is too bloody retarded to do its job...

I really need to get a way of viewing my gauges more easily, that reminds me, there is a program out there that allows you to view your gauges on a second screen isnt there?

MAC1
The trick is trimming/smooth movements of comtrols, also you should be "scanning" the instruments rather than reading them !  I am happy for my CH FighterStick (USB) were i have programmed elevator Trim onto the toggle switch.
Flying in the dark/Instrument flying is a skill that takes much practice   ;)
