A helicopter simulator on Arma2 engine.
« on: June 25, 2011, 02:01:14 PM »

Bohemia interactive studio released a test version of their upcoming Take on Helicopters simulator as mod for Arma2

What are your opinions on their chopper's FM? it's especially interesting to hear real heli pilots.

I used time ago ArmA and flew its helicopters, not bad since it's an infantery simulator, and far better than any Battlefield or similar, but also very far from any simulator. Anyway if those guys are really able to implement a real Flight Sim in that 3D engine it can be really amazing... the better thing of flying choppers or aircrafts there was from above ArmA terrain is awesome.

Didn't heard anything before about that, but now expecting news :).

Can it do combat? or is it just civilian? is there a Huey available for it?

It's civilian simulator. The test version contains only one chopper (a variant of MD500 I think). Still can't fly it properly, because my joystick doesn't work correctly in Arma2.

Sounds ok-ish, but no need to knock BFV/BF2, they got some great mods with less arcadey style handlings & more realistic (true to facts) weapon effects, i.e; Point of Existance (MOTY 08), Eve of Destruction, Day of Deafeat(?) various nations suffer invasions of their territory, like the Finnish Winter/Continuation War based mod.

Of course, of course, I used Project Reality for BF 2 a it's great. But I think even there realistic FM for aircraft/choppers is not the point of reality they look for. Don't know if thats achievable because always maps are small, but a flight sim using that great terrains could be awesome.

That's right. But a preview version of "Take on Helicopters" flight sim, which released as mod for Arma2:OA contains only 1 civilian helicopter with new (non-stock Arma) flight model.
