Hi guys,

Just a quick question:

If I have an ATI card, will I benefit from having that ati dll in the IL-2 root folder? and If I do, do I need to change something in my conf file to read it?

You only need it if you have problems in IL-2 with your installed version of ATI drivers.
Keeping the old dll in the IL-2 root folder means that you can run everything with the ATI drivers version installed in your OS, but only IL-2 will run with an older version of ATI drivers.

i had to edit the part [GLPROVIDERS] in conf.ini, has to look like this:

[GLPROVIDERS]
Open GL=atioglxx.dll

I've been watching this thread for awhile as I have ATI cards.  After a lot of heartache, trial and error I've decided I'll have to go back to nVidia.
System specs;
Intel i7 930 2.8Ghz (liquid cooled)
ASUS MB
24G RAM
2 x Radeon HD 5770 Crossfire enabled.
Looks like a good rig right?  Well.....

Hopefully the following info will sound familiar and my solution will help someone.....

Problems:
ATI driver updates essentially made playing my games worse and worse.
With original drivers I could play Far Cry 2 and BF3 for awhile (i.e. an hour or so) before they would freeze and the old "Driver display not responding" would eventually pop up, IL2 was never a problem unless I farted around with AA, AF or Tesselation settings (that would result in blank shapes on the ocean etc).
Cliffs of Dover worked smoothly but I kept getting these long "pins" sticking out of my aircraft.  "Artifacts" I think is the proper name.

After updating my drivers:
The artifacts got worse and I'd have translucent triangles shimmering in certain parts of the game and the usual spikes or pins.  It even started appearing in my old Fallout 3 game.
Far Cry 2 freezes during the load up process (unplayable), a hard reboot required
BattleField 3 freezes after game loaded and the chapters video intro had finished (unplayable), a hard reboot required

My temporary solution;
uninstalled the updated ATI drivers using the original ATI software that came with the card.
Installed the original drivers that came with the card and (drum roll)........Far Cry 2 and BF3 actually work again (although the "artifacts" are still appearing but the games work for a while now before freezing).

Ultimate solution:
dump the friggin ATI cards and go back to nVidia which never gave me problems in the past.

All that to say that it definitely seems to be the drivers, although the original drivers aren't perfect either.  I had high hopes for a 2 x HD 5770 on Crossfire setup.  You can imagine my disappointment.  Ironically the packaging advertises "BF3 approved" or some BS along those lines.

I'm willing to spend a chunk of cash to get the best bang for the buck.  Which nVidia GeForce card would you recommend?
Thanks.

It looks like a manufacturing defect, not a driver issue IMHO.
Maybe you can replace it under warranty.

Hey, Bravo, what about 1946? Did you test it without the older dll?
