When i got an HP Laptop, the first thing i did was format it. May sound a bit extreme, but HP has a tendency to pre install
crap that is good for nothing (if you know your way around computers). My advice (a little extreme, I know): Format the damn thing!
And then update the directx thingie from the post above by Ice Eagle.

Processor : AMD BulldozerFX4170 (Black Edition) 4Core
 Memory : Corsair Vengeance 1X8GB
 Mother Board : Gigabyite GA-990F XA-UD3
 Windows Version : Windows 7 Pro64
Monitor : HP 2009 Series Wide LCD Monitor
Video Adapter : Radeon XFX HD 7770 1GB Ghost
 HDD: WD 500GB

May I further ask on what PSU you're using to run the system? Just in case.

Also, I've been using a rather.... different driver to play my IL-2 Sturmovik 1946, with no problems, maybe you guys might want to have a look see at it... It certainly boosted my HD5870 in a way.

Here is a reply and a link to a very good source if one should need technical help. Its a thread I started when asking for help with my PC woe's, I thought i would share it with you guys. :)      Iv been a member there for some time now, and all the techies are very helpfull. Give a look see, they've a really good Forums. ;)

http://forums.tweaktown.com/forum.php

Live and learn.
Many don't research their memory purchases ahead of time where you check the memory manufacturer's web site and/or contact their tech support to see if they've tested specific memory modules with your motherboard. Another good option is to read memory reviews from the best websites. You can also ask questions in an online forum to see which memory brands and models work well with specific motherboards. Some memory buyers get in trouble because they believe  or misunderstand the manufacturer's marketing claims. All memory is not created equal and there can be any number of incompatibilities between some hardware brands.

Your best bet will be to buy a 2 x 4GB kit of DDR3 memory that works well with AMD systems if you're staying with AMD.
Most memory manufacturers have online "memory configurators" that will recommend which models are best suited for your motherboard.
GSkill and some others list which motherboards they've tested with each memory model.

It's best to avoid 8GB single or multiple modules unless you know exactly what you're doing.
Buying the right 8GB memory kit (2 x 4GB or 4 x 2GB) shouldn't be a problem if you've done your homework.
Hopefully the tech repair people at your local shop can advise you.
I'm leery of salesmen.

Oh, I could bet that your problem was related to memory, because I had a lot of issues like this in my work.
Unfortunatelly I was away for a week and I read your posts only now, sorry mate. :-[

Glad you reached the solution, Bravo. :)

Hi Santobr

I have a sony viao laptop Vista Home Premium 32 bit system with an

ATI Mobility Radeon x 2300 video graphics card

I installed a cataylist 11.11 for Vista and Win7 32 bit

After installation of the catalyst I noticed new files in the bin folder IL2 root game folder

I also have the following new entries in the conf. ini

[GLPROVIDER]
GL=Opengl32.dll

[GLPROVIDER]
Open GL=Opengl32.dll
DirectX=dx8wrap.dll

I am using a mapmaker game version mainly UP3 boomers excellent map maker switching mod.

The game loads up fine up until you zoom into a map.

I have fairly thick black bandy flashing lines across the full length of the screen and a black water square in the bottom left hand corner.

i have tried some conf.ini entries from examples provided here but still same screen situation.

I found one conf.ini for a DBW base map maker version worked ok but gave a very slow annoying mouse.

I thought the 11.11 vista Win 7 32 would suit this system.

Do I have to find that particular dll Opengl32.dll in the 11.11 catalist set up and place directly into the Il-2 game root folder similar to the wrapper.

Cheers Kirby
