I can get everything to work by doing the atioglxx.dll thing its just....annoying.

Heres my rig;

CPU: Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.00GHz
GPU: AMD HD 6970 2GB
RAM: 8GB
HDD: 160GB WD Velociraptor
MB: ASUS P5E Deluxe
Windows 7 64 bit

One other thing;Why do you add

[GLPROVIDERS]
Open GL=atioglxx.dll

to the conf.ini? I have always been able to get this trick to work by just dropping the atioglxx.dll in the main game folder and leaving the conf.ini unchanged

I didn't add "atioglxx.dll" in conf.ini, but "ati6xxx.dll" and I removed the "atioglxx.dll" file from the IL-2's folder.
I save the "atioglxx.dll" in another folder for guarantee.
But, before update the drivers, I uninstalled the old drivers and I cleaned my system of any trail of ATI's drivers with "Driver Sweeper" software.

I notice that Pablo, Ratsel and others change the conf.ini to;

[GLPROVIDERS]
Open GL=atioglxx.dll

when using the atioglxx.dll file and I was wondering why because the file has always worked (for me at least) without having to do this. I keep copies of atioglxx.dll from different driver versions to test them out. 11.5 seems to work the best but the older (ATI not AMD) drivers versions dont work at all, the game just wont start. I use Driver Sweeper too, have been for years, it work well and never caused any problems.

Hmmmm, I use driver Sweeper for every driver uninstall and CCleaner for the registry but never gone to the trouble that you do. When I remove the drivers in Control Panel the display always defaults to VGA adaptor coz I removed the Windows display drivers using command prompt ages ago. Will try your method and see what happens - thanks

Thanks Wayno, yes I have the atioglxx.dll from 11.4 as well as 10.12, 11.1, 11.2, 11.3 & 11.5 stored in seperate folders in my Il2 game folder. They all work - just trying to find which one is the best.

Is by chance anyone here running her/his system with an AMD HD 6870? I want to order that card now but read some unpleasant user reviews, some guys seem to have had issues like artifacts in cool mode, grey screens, flash player crashing. Most reports were good though, independent of the manufacturer. Nice card, but what bothers me is that one offered 'solution' a.o. by Gigabyte was to update the graphic card Bios and flash a new one-which makes me resistant to buy that card in the first place.
Any experiences? Could that "Bios needs update" issue be related to the later Ati drivers being crap?
