Service History

She was launched on 20 May 1944 and completed on 24 January 1946. She was transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy and commissioned as HMCS Warrior. She entered Halifax harbour on 31 March 1946, a week after leaving Portsmouth. She was escorted by the destroyer HMCS Micmac and the minesweeper HMCS Middlesex. The RCN experienced problems with the unheated equipment during operations in cold North Atlantic waters off eastern Canada during 1947. The RCN deemed her unfit for service and made arrangements with the Royal Navy to trade her for a more suitable aircraft carrier of the Majestic class which became HMCS Magnificent (CVL 21) on commissioning, rather than retrofit her with equipment heaters.

We already have HMS Colossus and somebody is using that model to create the French carrier of the same class (in WIP), if anybody knows how to clone the model to create multiple versions of the same model all you need do is change the Porta1D0o.tga skin and we could have all 10 of them, each deck was slightly different depending on age and country of use, and many flew jets.  I already have skins for HMS Centaur and HMAS Melbourne, I'm no skinner and they look way too clean but it's a start.

This is the only angled deck we have in game for now.

I can put it on a list of things I'm doing (it's a big list - sorry).  I'm not sure that it will look very accurate, that is a huge deck compared to the Colossus and there is a lot of stuff to try fit in.

I decided on the Oriskany because it had the smaller deck and that is going to be a challenge as it is and I might have to miss the odd thing out, like side lifts etc.  As I said, it will not be an accurate representation, just doing it for the fun of it and to see how it looks.

Hopefully the others working on the big deck ships will get there before I do ... and those decks I AM looking forward to.

Cheers Eddie :)

A small request. If you are doing the Melbourne, are you able to do 2 versions of it? With the delivery of the A-4 Skyhawks in the 1960s, it underwent a refit.

Anto

That is her above (marked 21) in her Jet era state when she flew A4's.  The deck scheme changes a few times and that is the one I see most often in pictures of her with A4's. 1 Cat only, which must have made flying off hard work.

Not sure what she looked like before that, I have no images to work from and pre jet she looked very different.  If I find some decent images pre jet I might do that version later.

Bring on that A4 ... perfect match for this baby.

HMAS Melbourne - RAN Jet era
HMS Centaur -RN Jet era
USS Oriskany (The best representation I can get within the restrictions of the Colossus deck size. Side lifts shown but not full size)

Clean decks, no weathering.
