Finally installed this successfully after months of no luck.

Use the replacement class files offered in this thread.

Make sure ship ini entries are formatted correctly e.g.

//---------------------
[USS San Jacinto]

Not:

----[ShipUSSSanJacinto]----
//---------------------
[USS San Jacinto]

A simple mistake but easily rectified.
