Sorry dinosaur, I think you are the one with the arrogant attitude here. GJE52 tried to expain quite clearly that people with the programming knowledge to make this happen, were not able to due to the way the game is programmed. You can discuss this til the cows come home but regardless, the modders here have given it a shot and are not going waste time pursing something with no returns.

I appreciate your point and yes a fresh set of eyes from someone of a different background can always be of assistance but unless that observer is also equipped with programming knowledge and understands the game engine, it isn't going to help progress this particular project much further.

As for releasing the model, it's his model and may chose what he does with it. I am with him, in that it should both look right and fly right before release. The mod should be a full package and I don't think we should be filling up slots with aircraft that don't fly or at least how they were intended to.

Anyway, feel free to discuss VTOL but please be aware that unless someone comes up with a huge re-write of the Il-2 flight model, don't expect VTOL any time soon. If this discussion turns to personal attacks again, expect this tread to disappear.

As I said, just because those in the know cannot make this happen (as of now) does not mean that it should not be discussed.
This was what got me irritated; stating that "it doesn't matter what you could possibly come up with we have already thought of it, so we don't want to discuss it" (I paraphrase, you understand) attitude. I was not demanding that the model be released or that there be VTOL implemented in IL - 2. I wasn't demanding anything.

But you guys are the bosses around here. Thanks for giving me a calm even handed reply, but I'll just keep my opinion to myself in future. I guess it'll be better all round that way.

One mistake in my reply, the model part was supposed to be directed not specifically at you but anyway...

You are welcome to your opinion and we like to here it (hence why the thread hasn't been dumped). Maybe I will shift this thread to the 'Lounge' and instead it can serve as a general discussion of VTOL flight as opposed to implementing it into Il-2?

Maybe a good idea?

I don't know - I didn't mean to get so irate, maybe I should have followed the old maxim "if you can't think of anything nice to say, don't say anything..."

I personally try to be inclusive as I can when I am discussing my modding work with others, or even if I am just giving some tips or hints to others. Maybe I just have a different outlook on such matters .

Either way - no personal attack was intended.

No probs. Just this topic has turned from a 'Work In Progress' (which it is no longer), to a general discussion and it now better belongs amongst other such general topics.

I kinda saw this coming since Gerd's Mave (vectored thrust) and proper FM for Mi-24 (it seems they made the whole helicopter physics from scratch there) appeared. Yeah... impossible... there is no such thing as impossible in Java based game it turns out.

BTW, is this that secret project you mentioned?

EDIT: Video got removed :D

Skipper did the first amphibian and the first autogyro. Who knows what he'll do next.

i'm not so sure that Skipper did first amphibian - i thought that was Beowulf?
nevertheless, suffice to say that we have found a way to implement VTOL, still being tested, but so far, so good, and there will surely be some nice surprises coming everyone's way soon enough. ;)

Haha funny reading through the comments. Only a few up I was essentially saying VTOL could not be done with the limitations of the flight engine. Well S3 overcame those limitations and we got there

Congrats S3 for once again reinventing what is possible in this game. Really amazing though, in last month or two we'v had some amazing break-throughs. Fully functioning radar with multiple modes and IFF, proper VTOL, proper turboprop engine models and much more.
