Ostfront 09.01.39 to 09.25.41
« on: July 07, 2011, 09:47:24 AM »

At one time someone was doing a Polish campaign map - 1st  map of Ostpreußen and Westpolen
and 2nd map (on the size and scale of Gilberts Channel map) for the Fall Barbarossa operations.
No idea as to what happened to this huge but necessary endeavor where the Germany,& the Italian and Romanian allies
were initially greeted as liberators mostly in the Baltic nations and parts of Ukraine
unfortunately for the German war effort ,SS-SD Einesatzgruppen & anti partisan reprisals reversed this trend with in the first year.

The map for the first 9 months of Barbarossa was to be scaled down to the size in the posted pictures.
The polish campaign could be possibly fit as the picture represents.

Hmm... okay... Is this a request now, or are you actually doin it?  If once made a western poland map, but it was an epic fail, because I was very new to mapping... but we have a Baltic Map by Uzin wich represents this area. For the other map I seriously don't know ;)

Batbomb, I with I could make maps like Cannon-Gilb57 or Zuti b/c I have the time , but not the skill.

if I had a map of the areas I outlined in my original post that had Bumpf files & ground texture gray scale done, and all the trees like
the repaints of Crimea, Kuban, Cannon-Gilb57 Hi Res Channel map etc - then I think I could populate it with the sets of UP3 objects now available.
I may have trouble with airfields  -

Obviously the reason way this project has not been done is the map is big like the channel map, and densely populated.
One could probably do 3 maps before you finished one map of Germany and her borders with Cz, Poland, etc..

YOU ARE CORRECT

For a game that is east front in origin - there are NO suitable maps for the invasion of Russia

A contiguous map for the 1st 6 months of operation Barbarossa should have been in the QMB Maps for IL2 Sturmovik 4.07m
instead a map of Smolensk which is East of Minsk was included and then a Moscow map.

IL2 the game because of the available maps, has the player regardless of side Red or Blue, start the  East Front in Mid September 1941.
Why?

There are no maps available for use in IL2 for the East Front air campaigns September 1st 1939 to September 10th 1941
& apparently no plans to make any.

There is seemingly no interest in the parts of Russia that border Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania.
There is a very good map of Ukraine but only has the center area of Zhytomyr and Kiev.

I would enjoy the chance to try my luck at stopping the Blitzkreig in the East in what ever Polish or Russian planes that were available on a appropriate map.
but I guess it is not to be.

This is the area ( in yellow ) that would need to be mapped and it is the file size of Cannons Channel Map -

With this map you could get the 1939 Polish campaign, the first 7 months of 1941 Barbarossa , including the Baltic's,
a Partial Army Group South & Romanian Army campaign coming up from Balkans and many 1944-45 campaigns as well.
