Odd map error. Thoughts? Help?
« on: July 13, 2011, 08:56:30 AM »

I've got a stock recent SAS MODACT running with up to date buttons as of last week or so. I am running SAS on startup with some custom planes and a few custom effects in place.

One of the planes is the Me410. I downloaded a Me410 campaign from M4T and it runs okay until about mission #5. Then when I try to load it I get an error

Mission loading failed: Landscape
'Ardennes/tab_wload.ini' loading error

And I have to click the "OK" box to get back to the main menu.

I gather this campaign was geared to the old AAA Me410s, and maybe this Ardennes map was part of the AAA kit. I don't have that and am not running AAA.

Any thoughts on where I can get this? I tried searching for maps but 99% of the results were printable reference maps for terrains, rather than the actual terrains themselves.

I'd like to finish the campaign. Per some other comments I tried opening the file in MB Pro but it wouldn't load.

I know nothing at all about maps for IL2. Is it just a single file? You plop it in a directory and everything works?

Or, like adding a new plane, do you have to put text entries into several INI files for it to work?

Also, is it something I can extract from DBW or UP3?

I've just spent a couple weeks getting IL2 up to speed now, and it's starting to look good. I don't want to run a self-installer and have it totally hose all my efforts just for a single map. If there were manual install instructions I'd be more open to it, because then I personally would know what I put and where I put it, and could back-track to remove it all if I wanted to, effectively restoring my mod setup.

Otherwise I have to copy my entire IL2 directory, duplicate it, and make an entirely different setup just for DBW/UP that takes up tons of HD space.

You see, I'm hessitant to go through all that... but if I can just download it and strip out the map file I think it might be worth it.

Murray,

It seems like a headache now, but a working copy of UP3.0 is going to give you pretty much all the mods, maps, planes etc and a good base to add whatever else you might come across.

Dark Blue World builds on top of that for very little added space and with these in place most missing files will become a thing of the past!  This will actually save you TONS of disc space.  Performance is dramatically improved.  Loading times are super fast too.

You don't have to copy your entire directory - Start with a clean install patched up to 4.101.  Thats what you want to back up, and there is information on this site on making multiple copies of IL2.

From your clean new 4.101 - Install UP3.0. and DBW

Be methodical - start from a good base and these sorts of issues will be history!

So DBW installs over UP3? I didn't know that, thanks. Thought it was standalone like UP.

I edited the .MIS file and just removed the "tab_" from the file. I don't know if this really screws up the map, the placement of stuff, etc. I don't know if it has long-term problems or is causing my wingmen to crash into trees as they circle to land (silly AI), but for now it works. I just have to go through them all and edit the files with notepad, which takes time.
