Guess I'll be forever hanging from my parachute straps. :(  If the AI pilot doesn't get me the AAA will, if that doesn't there is the SAM, I'm doomed. ;)

Looking forward to this addition.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

I've cleaned up the negative posts. All mods are welcome here and if you don't like something, you don't have to use it. If you have nothing nice or constructive to say, then don't say it.

For those interested though, SAMs started to be developed straight after WW2. The first lot of SAM's started to appear in the late 1950s, which fits perfectly into the development that's going on here :)

Even a little bit early.
The first SAM were deployed in USA since 1953.

The Soviet SAM system around Moscow became operational in 1956.

So "il2-1956" can have 2 types of SAMs!

We could even have them in 1946.
Schmetterling
Enzian
Rheintochter
Rheinbote
Wasserfall

Just to mention a few of germany's outstanding efforts to threaten allied bomber formations.

The Rheinbote looks more lika a flying telegraph pole than a SA-6/7 ever did, even the Nike-Hercules has that diameter to length ratio/look. The Enzian is like an reduced scaled/unmaned 163...

The Rheinbote in fact saw action during war in November 1944, when 220 of them were used as SSM against Antwerp. Well, with a warhead of just 25kg this won't have been the big success anyway.
The pole shape is due to the fact that this missile featured 4 stages, should be easy to produce, though fast and with a high maximum altitude. Since it was driven by solid rocket engines, there was no need for a larger diameter to hold additional aggregates.
The Enzian in fact was derived from the Me-163, that's why it looks alike. It made several test launches since may/june 1944, but never got combat ready.

Best regards - Mike

I suppose turning the 163 into a guided/controlled bomber missile/aerial saturation weapon would stop pilots being dissolved at best, and make use of existing airframes with some neccessary modifications...

Aboout Warning in teh cockpit, I am guessing that Way up to the 60{s teh onlly warning system were your own Eyes....
In Vietnam most SAM calls were made when visually cacthing a SAM taking off, specially in radar Saturated areas where RWR were going crazy...

In that era most pilots recognised the Sam threat right after the bang in the engine block ... but seriously most of it was eyeball stuff, you just hoped somebody saw what was coming up to alter your paint job and panicked accordingly ...

I thought the F4 Phantom had some sort of RWR in it, no idea about the Migs or anything else, or am I mistaken ?
