Very nice looking map! I really like the dark textures along the tree lines.

 ;D
And by the way in my language the word 'Flickr' is pronounced the same way as 'flikker' which means fagget or queer.  ;D

But seriously: have you tried the University of Texas site? They have loads of maps worldwide. Maybe it helps in whatever way.

Found these interesting images of Rabaul and Vunakanau:

JAPANESE ANTIAIRCRAFT CREWS abandon their 75mm guns at Rabaul during strafing runs by Army Air Forces B-25s. (USAF A-26636AC)

TOWN OF RABAUL shows the effect of area saturation bombing in this photograph taken from a Navy SBD during an attack on 22 March 1944. (USN 80-G-220342)

PARAFRAG BOMBS drop toward Japanese Bettys in revetments at Vunakanau field during a B-25 attack in October 1943. (USAF 25899AC)

[EDIT]: I found some large images of bombed airfields in New Guinea. Hard to find out the locations but maybe a source of inspiration for populating airfields or anything:

Nice find Uufflakke. Bee have you tried http://www.345thbombgroup.org/history/mission-reports.php and http://www.345thbombgroup.org/history/mission-maps.php ? these contain many maps of the Rabaul area. Great info for mission builders too!

Hi Bee,

You must know
http://www.pacificwrecks.com/  ;D :D ;)

List by Nation is very good.

They have multitudes of airfields listed for all Pacific Nations.

I like how you can copy and paste the coordinates given by Pacific Wrecks for an airfield into an English version Google Earth search and it comes in line with where the airfield is generally located.

I came across an interesting thing from Pacific Wrecks today involving two airfielfds n0.1 and no.2.

No.2 airfield location was marked as the current airport for today but overgrown etc. No.1 airfield location is in the vacinity of the local airport. So No.1 airfield seems to be still in use today.

So very valuable besides other great sources of info.

Cheers Kirby

Thanks guys  :)

That link Uufflakke provided gave me an outstanding map of some of the roads around Rabaul township.  Brilliant stuff!
Those bombing reports look great too.  Campaign builders paradise  :p

Another site which is outstanding is http://www.footnote.com
Rabaul stuff starts here: http://www.footnote.com/image/#1|46947239
Everything is in very high resolution and all fronts are covered.

Thanks for asking.  Still going.  :P
Spent ages removing some of the worst crimes against topography, smoothing out vertical rivers and levitating coastlines.  Also doing a lot of research on Rabaul and it's surroundings.  Found out vunakanau has a concrete strip down the middle and retaining walls keeping the weeds out.  Shall have to rework that a bit.

Got a copy of the excellent Fortress Rabaul by Bruce Gamble.  Can't recommend it enough  :)

Populating the Northern part of the harbour currently.  Marauders keep interrupting construction...

Couple of quickies
