I've got two options.  I can either detail up the default layout as best as I can to preserve compatability with any existing missions or campaigns.  Or I can make a new one and compatability be damned.  Below are some shots of Vuna' with the Tainan layout for comparrison.

Tainan Group's layout of Vunakanau.  Should I change it?

Or make two versions of this map: one with a detailed stock airfield to preserve compatability with missions and a second version which comes as close as possible to the real thing.
For us users it is just a matter of swapping one or two files in the Rabaul map folder.

Sounds like a smart solution by Uufflakke.

I would like to see it as close to the real thing as possible. Great screenshots!

OMG Vuna is huge..

Blending 4x separate overlapping textures to make up the entire complex was such a mind bender.  I don't even want to talk about it :(
Don't get excited yet.  I've never made an airfield from scratch before, so this could take some time.  I hope the dirt colour is okay (I'm red/green colour blind so I'm damned if I know what it looks like).  I'm very happy with the surrounding ground though.  It uses a bumpH file, with the runway and taxiways given a neutral tone so they give the impression of sitting below the ground cover.  The edges of all the paths will get thinned out and roughed up later.

The entire area is a painted texture.  This will allow me to add every peri track and footpath.  As well as the bomb damage.  Made a couple of exploratory craters as you can see below.  Planning on blowing the crap out of the place for the finished product however ;)

I reckon I'll take Uufflakke's advice and provide a seperate actors file with the old Vunakanau on it too.  Won't be nearly as detailed however, as work commitments need to come first.

Bee, the last shot is indeed fantastic..so are all the village and airfiled shots :)...

I would like to mention one point which is only my taste:
Do you think it would be logical to add Uufflakke's NamWood from the South Vietnam modded maps by Mission_bug and Dixiecapt?

Post 69:

And maybe lighten the map up a tad and increase contrast on some areas? Based on the 1st page of this lovely thread, I found the landscape a tad to dark/European for a New Guinea(n) area.
Albeit some shots indeed indicate very dark forests/woods, so please decide yourself. All the above was rather related to brightness, not colours. And put as a question, not a request, from a fanatic map fan.

Here some random shots I found..

Look how close that is to Bee's version on page 1++, no pun intended.

Thanks a lot, Bee!

PS: The forests on these shots are indeed very dark, maybe even darker on some shots. WOuld not have expected this TBH.
