Quick Missions
« on: August 19, 2011, 05:57:21 AM »

I wonder if anyone can help with my problem with "Quick"? Where should the Quick folder reside so that I can see the missions from the "Load" button in the QMB? I have tried various locations but only have access to the missions if I have the Quick folder inside "NN" in the Single Missions folder. Can't be right!

Tried that! For some reason they still don't show. I run 4.09b1m with JSGME enabled and wonder if there's any conflict.

4.09b1m ?   ???
sheesh...you must be one of the last guys on the planet still using that old version!  ;D
sorry, man - i can't offer support for that version, none of us on the team are using it anymore.
if you are seriously into your Il2 modding, i sincerely recommend you bin that version, and go with a newer install that is based off 4.101m version of the game.
that would be SAS Modact, UP3/HSFX or DBW versions.. ;)

Sheesh indeed. I'd have moved on months ago but for the fact that I can't get the b thing to uninstall. Every time I try I get an error msg part way through the process. So have been unable to add the clean install of the basic 46 package to add the "modern" improvments. No, changing the name of the folder in which it sits didn't help, nor did removing MODS file to another part of the forest. So I'm stuck. Wonderful, isn't it?

hmm....no, you're not totally stuck.
there is a way to get around that, just for the life of me can't think right now what it was.... :P
give me some time to go through the ol' memory banks, and i'll get back to you.
in the meantime, i know many others who could chip in with the right process...

just to be sure we're on the same page here, you need to be able to uninstall your old version before you can reinstall a new version, is that it?
and it won't uninstall via windows add/remove programs?

If the error msg tells what file/folder is restricted you can go into the IL2 root folder, rightclick the file/folder that´s offending, click properties and untick the "read only", then click "execute" (or whatever it´s called in english) but DON´T I repeat DON´T click OK. Close the page and open a new page and delete the IL2 folder. If you get more errors ou´l have to do the same again and again until you´ve deleted all. Bythe way you don´t need to do the uninstall via add/remove programs or via the install disk just delete the folder and you should be OK!
Hope this helps

Thanks for the offers of help. Malone, you're absolutely right about where I am stuck. Flying H, I've tried backing it up to an external drive and then deleting the whole lot, and it still won't show me an "Install" message when I put the CD in and try to run the setup.

ok, what OS are you running, XP? Win 7?
depending on that, i might suggest getting rid of the windows registry entries for IL2, then after rebooting you should be able to reinstall the game.
are you familiar with editing the registry?
i can guide you through it if you are using XP, not sure how similar Win Vista/7 is....

I'm still with XP. Would be very pleased to know what to look for in regedit. Thanks again.

ok - run regedit.
navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE...
you should find a list of folders in here, pertaining to all the apps/games/progs,etc you have installed.
now look for folders Ubi Soft and UBISOFT.
depending on whether you have any other Ubisoft games installed, you need to delete any entries referring to IL2.
if you have no other Ubisoft products installed, you can delete the entire Ubi Soft and UBISOFT folders and their contents.
if you do have any other Ubisoft games, it's a bit more tricky, you need to go into the UBISOFT folder and delete any IL2 related subfolders.
once this is done, reboot your machine and you should be good to go for a fresh install.
any hassles, let us know - but REMEMBER - messing with regedit is potentially dangerous! make sure not to delete anything other than the IL2 related folders.
if in doubt, post here with questions, and we'll go through it - but you should manage with the info i've given. ;)

VMT. Will give it a go this evening as I am very keen to move on to all the mouthwatering developments created by people much cleverer(and younger) than me!
