Improving Radio Navigation
« on: October 26, 2011, 02:59:12 PM »

We all know that in 4.10 we now have NDB stations, AM radio stations, localizer, full ILS, and naval military beacons. Despite having all of these new navigation systems, the way we connect to it's signal is simply by choosing from an available list.

I have an idea/proposal (if it's possible). Every time we place navigation systems on a map in FMB, is it possible that we can assign a frequency to it, so that this way, once you are in game, each time you wish to connect to a navaid, a small window comes up and prompts you to input the frequency numbers, and now you're tracking it. It would add a large sense of realism to radio navigation.

Also, a request seperate from the one above, but a similar one. In the Localizer and ILS systems, there are two Marker Beacons that go off as you get closer to the runway. Is it possible to add a third Inner Marker Beacon that will have a different sound that will go off when you are 100ft above the runway threshold?

I've seen the code of Beacons, I don't know if it is possible.
I know you can put up to 32 Beacons per team.

But your request is not bad.

From there, it's a small step to modeling different radio frequencies. That would be very realistic, but probably too much of a hassle of most players!

And, once you step into the weird world of shortwave radio, there's all sorts of ultra-realistic stuff: static, different radio frequencies "stepping" on other channels, frequency shifting, "bouncing" radio signals off of the ionosphere, static, thunderstorms interfering with radio, etc.

One step at a time I guess. ;D

Talking about radioaids, could some one add the Glide slope to the ILS?
We all know that in our ILS in IL2 the horizontal bar of the gauge doesn't work how it should, in real life the horizontal bar works like the glide slope, but in IL2 it only shows how streng is the radio signal.

Mustang, if you've ever flown the B-25 with the US ILS, the glide slope works. The United States system is the only Full ILS system in the game, and the B-25 is the only plane that has the proper instrumentation to track the glideslope.

German aircraft that track the Lorenz beacon were never meant to have a glide slope. the horizontal bar shows distance, kind of like a DME.

Your request for a full ILS with glideslope already exists.

Hummm, sorry dude :P
I flew the B-25 with the ILS a long back, but never realised about that, my bet :S
