Conditional branching within campaigns?
« on: November 03, 2011, 05:42:22 AM »

My fellow gamers I bring you a question. Sometime ago,and possibly in the olden days of the original IL-2 - there were campaigns written that allowed a series of branched outcomes. For example if you failed or did not meet the success criteria then you followed an alternative path.

So my question is two fold please. 1) Is this still possible to do? 2) Anyone have any info about it or used it with any success in their campaigns?

Thank you!

I know such a thing existed "in the golden days"...

But i have never seen one campaign making use of it (and I have see a lot, believe me)

AFAIK there was some additional tool needed and everything was kind of complicated - so complicated that it never made any breakthrough, as tempting as it may sound on first sight.

i don't know about conditional branching, but there has always been the option for alternative branching missions in campaigns - it's random, however, and not conditional.

yes, Gerhard, that's what i'm referring to.
it allows for alternate branching, but it's not conditional. ;)

This is not what the guy in Post 1 means.

there was a tool that made branching possible, depending of success/no success in a mission (or at least something like that). But as I described, it never was used much due to the sideffects/restrictions/complexity....
never became big, but it existed. I remember looking at it as an oddity.

The tool was called WarGen. I think it is no longer available.

I remember seeing this action. I failed a mission and the next one was identical EXCEPT the Ju-88s became He-111s. So some form of branching definitely existed.

Wowsers. Didn't expect my humble question to raise such a response. Yes, forgive me - I always thought that the branching was dependent upon the success criteria defined in the previous mission - and therefore I assumed it was conditional.

Gutted that the download is no longer available, it would have been interesting to try.

@SAS~Garex, if you don't mind a short wait I will happily try it...after all what's the worst that can happen... :D
