Images/links to Russian Industrial areas and factories
« on: November 16, 2011, 07:50:44 AM »

Is there somebody around who can provide me with some decent images or links to relevant sites with images of Russian WWII industrial areas and factories?
I want to use them for populating my retextured version of the Crimea Mud map.
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,19342.0.html

I searched the net but the results are not very useful.  :(
Probably a Russian member can help me out. I presume that in Cyrillic there will pop up better results.
My knowledge of Cyrillic is close to zero.

I found at least something from this well known site:
http://www.wwii-photos-maps.com/targetrussia/airarmamentindustry/slides/Aircraft%20Motor%20Factory%2026-%20Ufa%20-%20Sketch%20-%20August%201944%20(2).html
But would like to have images from closer distance so I know what objects to use for a template.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Uufflakke,

Here are some snaps I found...

Chelyabinsk Tractor Factory

Kirov Factory

Volidarsky Clothing Factory (in BG)

Izhevsky Motovazod Factory 1940

Abandoned Car Factory

Red October Factory (from a chocolate wrapper!)

Unidentified 1930s European Factory with shell damage

Tula Ammunition Factory (now)

Watch Factory

Railway Coach Manufacturing Hall

As you said not the best sources, but some interesting buildings nonetheless.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the efforts Kopfdorfer, but to  be honest I've found the same images of -for instance- the tractor factory.

But maybe these images don't exist for the simple reason that the Russian army/intelligence didn't make any photos of it. It is also very difficult to find images of Russian airfields.
The Germans documented almost everything and I've found many aerial recce photographs for bombing targets.
I've also browsed through the site of the Bundesarchiv. But to no avail.
The pictures I'm looking for needs to be from lower altitude/ ground level. It wouldn't surprise me that by the time the German army marched through the streets the Luftwaffe must have bombed these industrial areas. So no photos could be made of any intact factory.
Who knows.

And I've a rifle from Tula factory.  8)
Bought it about 30 years ago and looks like this one:

The one I have is not operational anymore, they filled up the barrel and removed some essential parts.
Not that much of a problem, I just wanted to have it. As far as I can remember it costed me less than € 40,-.  :)

Nice!! I have seen it, but it was Spanish made. I only have ammunition for it, Tula and Lugansky, oldest is 1923 batch. But I have it joint in a I-16 type 5 Shkas belt ;).
