Well, tested out with QMB and the AI worked fine.  Tried various F4U variants and each engaged the enemy with aggressive yet calculated B&Z tactics.  Yea, I will post up an Aircraft pack update soon with all the latest stuff including the Corsair pack, TBD-1, and other goodies.

If that is correct , than I'm understanding that all other mods that I would want to use would go into the appropriate folder in your packs , NOT into "DBW" in the main directory?

Hi Ribs,

You are correct.  With these packs all mod additions go in the packs based on category.  Barnsey's mask mod would as you mentioned, go in the Pilots pack.  If you were to add a new ship, it would go in the Static pack.  A new aircraft, better wheels update, new spinner, etc... would go in the Aircraft pack.  Need a map update for a new campaign, it would go in the Maps pack.

Nothing would ever go in the stock #DBW folder of the DBW IL2 install.  Only the packs would be edited (of course, be sure to disable pack in GME prior to working on it  :) ).  Thus if you had a CTD or other problems, simply disable the pack and debug, therefore leaving your "vanilla" DBW install untouched.

I am not happy, let me tell you.

Not only you did not contact any author for permission to repack, but what is really worse is that you removed all credits and "readme"s

You don't have my bless (=agreement) to use any of my works / conversions in there, and I am not happy about credit removed for all other modders either.

Sent pm, though of note, the goal of this effort was to provide the DBW user base with a way to implement mods without the need to risk damage to their "vanilla" DBW install.  The packs serve that purpose and as a framework they function quite well for users who wish to install category-specific mods to their DBW install.  Additionally, the collection of mods included in the packs have been implemented and tested to all work in conjunction.  For example, a primary issue with the landing gear damage mod involved sequence and association with other mods.  In the case of these packs, the LGD mod does not conflict and functions correctly, whereas many DBW 1.7.1 users have expressed issues with it failing. 

My intention with the packs was simply to enhance DBW with the fantastic mods found within SAS.  The beauty of the framework is that you can simply turn them off as needed, or edit as needed without touching DBW.  Frankly, I have evolved these packs based upon my personal preferences/choices with a goal to make them work.  If something did not work, I did not include it.

Though, where these packs are now, I do agree that likely they should come down, as the last thing I want to do is upset the modders out there who create this excellent content including yourself.  What began as the idea of a CLEAN framework morphed into basically an "over enhanced" DBW which is not a bad thing, but likely something users should evolve on their own, rather than by me.

Re: modder credit:  Credit is simply the fact that these packs contain the awesome stuff created and posted by the modders within this SAS web forum.  I could name them all with their readme's, but that content is already out there in the SAS posts, and as noted, I did not want to include extra files in the file set (though if these packs live on in some official manner, perhaps credit could be added to each packs /documentation/ folder).   

All in all, hopefully perhaps SAS can take ownership of the packs or release a required specification which can be included to promote individual credits.  Though simply as a part of the SAS family, credit is already, I believe, known to be with the modders who create this wonderful content. 

For those that already have the packs, enjoy and garden as necessary to keep your vanilla DBW installs clean.  Expand your packs to your own avail, and enjoy the awesome stuff that we find near daily emerging within SAS to enhance our IL2 experience.  Perhaps, the DBW CLEAN Packs will be released again under "official" SAS auspices as DBW evolves beyond 1.7.1 to help those who are looking for a simple solution to enhance their DBW beyond where the vanilla version resides.

I hope you can re-establigh this collection and move forward with it. It seems to be very popular, and I can tell you, no one else is working on anything like this .

Try to get as many credits as you can (or even a link to the original topic is good for credit referencing), and follow that with an invitation to any modder or person with credit info to contact you for any corrections, and you can add those to your thread right away, and to a readme too, if you offer the readme for seperate download (something we often do when there is a situation were it may be updated more frequently than the pack.

The thing about credits is, you will never get them all. Never evert ever. Man, I think MrJolly still contacted me as recent as a month ago to fix some credit. And it is right for him to do and it was fixed. It happens all the time. The secret with the credits is to at least try your best. Now, I have not downloaded your pack, so I realy dont know what you had in there or not. But this is the principles of the thing as I understand them. Just try your best, and open the door to anyone you may have missed, and you will be fine.

I hope these words will give you some courage to take up this task again, and continue with this rather wonderfull bit of work you have been doing. I am sure plenty of IL2 players will be thankfull that you do.

But if my words have singularily failed to inspire you, then I could always make it an official order  ;D
